Production for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 is now in progress! Since airing on April 26, 2017, it has amassed several fans. The show discusses Margaret Atwood’s 1985 book and highlights the realities of a handmaid.
Hulu took to Instagram to update viewers and fans about the same with a picture of the drama’s lead, Elisabeth Moss, who plays June Osborne. Moss is seen flaunting a smile while holding a clapboard. The caption announced,
“Guess who’s back? Production on the final season has officially started. #TheHandmaidsTale will return Spring 2025.”
Although Hulu claimed season 6 of The Handmaid's Tale would drop in Spring 2025, an official release date is anticipated. The show’s renewal was last announced in 2022, leaving fans curious about an update.
When was The Handmaid's Tale renewed?
In an interview from September 8, 2022, with People, the show’s creator and executive producer Bruce Miller announced The Handmaid’s Tale renewal on a bittersweet accord,
“It has been a true honor to tell the story of Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel and chillingly relevant world, and we are thrilled to bring viewers a sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Similarly, the showrunner issued a press release about the same. Miller extended his and the team of The Handmaid’s Tale’s gratitude to Hulu and MGM for giving them a chance to do one last season of the series. He also proceeded to thank viewers and said,
“We are in awe of our incredible fans for their unwavering support, and without whom we never would have gotten to this point.”
Fans eagerly anticipate an epic conclusion for the Emmy-winning series, which has gripped viewers.
What will season 6 of The Handmaid’s Tale be about?
Although the plot for season 6 of The Handmaid's Tale has yet to be released, it will deal with the aftermath of several cliffhangers from season 5. The previous season's finale saw the sacrifice, arrests, completion of a love story, and an endearing and unknown fate for several characters.
Though the storyline of The Handmaid's Tale is being kept under strict wraps, Miller teased the upcoming season in a 2022 interview with Digital Spy. When asked about the endgame for season 6, Miller said,
“We’re going to wrap it up on our own terms. It’s something we never get with just the way the business is set up.”
Lastly, Miller explained that the show will primarily focus on concluding the story of Moss’s character, June Osborne. Miller revealed that he and the author (still alive) often discuss the show and what more it should highlight. Furthermore, he also teased the ending of The Handmaid’s Tale and claimed,
“The book is so frustrating at the end because the book just ends!”
