The Forsytes will premiere anytime now and PBS has already renewed its drama adaptation for a second season

PBS' The Forsyte Saga seems to have filled the hole left by Downton Abbey, i.e., an old-time British drama revolving around the lives of an English aristocratic family. Based on author John Galsworthy's series of novels, PBS' Masterpiece seems to be gearing up to adapt the iconic British family for the third time for the small screen.

While the airing date for the series is not revealed yet, it seems that the network likes what they've seen, because rumor has it that PBS Masterpiece has renewed The Forsytes for a second Season. A report was published by Deadline in the early morning hours of March 13, 2025. However, the network hasn't officially confirmed the news about the renewal.

Thus, it looks like we may need to wait for a while for an official update on the second Season of The Forsytes.

PBS Masterpiece's The Forsytes promises to be a glossy, glamorous small-screen adaptation of John Galsworthy's The Forsyte Saga. The show, like the books, will chronicle the lives of an aristocratic English family referred to as the "Forsytes." As we wait for the premiere date of the first episode, the new rumor hints that the network is impressed enough with the first Season to supposedly renew it for another season.

This rumor came right after the official news that Channel 5, the British broadcaster owned by Paramount, acquired the rights to air The Forsytes in the United Kingdom. This news was confirmed by none other than Ben Frow, the boss of Channel 5. Frow released this statement while confirming this news:

“There is huge breadth of new content on streaming for viewers to discover, but the heart of 5 will always be our commitment to originated, UK produced public service content – including our award winning factual and more hours of original drama than we have ever commissioned. With an unmissable nationwide marketing campaign that is bigger than anything we’ve done before, I hope we can open the eyes of those who haven’t previously watched with us to some of the fantastic shows we have to entertain them.”

BAFTA award winner Francesca Annis' Ann, the formidable matriarch of the Forsyte family, serves as one of the protagonists of the show. Apart from her, the show consists of talented actors like Stephen Moyer, Jack Davenport, Millie Gibson, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Joshua Orpin. Debbie Horsfield, who was nominated for a BAFTA for her writing work in Poldark, wrote this series.

The official synopsis for the series reads:

"Sticklers for tradition and status, the older Forsytes prize duty and reputation above all else, whilst the younger members rail against the rigidity of family expectations. The question of who will take over the family firm puts Soames Forsyte and his cousin Jolyon in conflict just as their lives are turned upside down by the arrival of two remarkable women. Ultimately, each Forsyte family member grapples with the same dilemma – is it better to be ruled by the head or the heart?"
