According to the latest reports, Netflix's action fantasy drama adaptation The Witcher has started production of Season 5, and the recent news is already causing a social media buzz. The fourth season is set to premiere on Netflix this fall, and the introduction of a new face like Liam Hemsworth is garnering a lot of attention from the fans (as he replaces Superman icon Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt of Rivia).

Now, the reports on Season 5 filming have only added fuel to the fire. Earlier in January, multiple sources confirmed that the final season of The Witcher is in the pre-production stage, and it naturally brought promising updates to the storyline shortly before the Season 4 premiere. Moreover, the release of the animated film The Witcher: The Sirens of the Deep earlier in February has added further value to the franchise's timeline.

As per the latest reports, Cape Town (South Africa) has been chosen for filming The Witcher Season 5. Nothing is official as of now, and fans are still waiting for confirmation from Netflix.

The filming process will reportedly continue till mid-March, where sets (originally meant for a much-anticipated spin-off project, The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale) have pivotal roles to play. However, following the usual trend, production will eventually shift to London, England, and Liam Hemsworth will join the crew there, per reports.

An impactful personality like Henry Cavill's exit has naturally garnered quite some disappointment from fans. However, it is worth mentioning that newly released movies and highly anticipated upcoming spin-offs have made the franchise's future look bright.

The penultimate and the final chapters of The Witcher have been purely inspired by three novels, namely The Tower of the Swallow, Lady of the Lake, and Baptism of Fire. Ex-star Henry Cavill is quite hopeful of and believes in Liam Hemsworth's input as the lead character in the upcoming seasons, as he mentions in a statement, per Tudum.

He further added that he wants to "pass the torch" to Hemsworth "with reverence" for the character Geralt that he had been playing for a while. Cavill's exact words were:

"As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men."

Furthermore, earlier in January, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich reportedly opened up about her feelings towards the much-anticipated new seasons and also talked about the books that inspired her. Per Tudum, he mentioned in a statement, saying:

"We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends."
