The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras Episode 3 featured Tony Raines and Jodi Weatherton’s elimination. Tony Raines and Averey Tressler competed against Darrell Taylor and Jodi Weatherton in the elimination challenge.

Even though they were safe, Tony and Averey decided to compete in the elimination challenge because they couldn’t agree on who else to nominate. As a result, Averey won the challenge against Jodi, but Tony Raines lost against Darrell and was eliminated from The Challenge 40.

In his interview with Entertainment Weekly on August 28, 2024, Tony recently opened up about how he made a deal with Darrell Taylor and what happened between him and Averey before elimination.

"The deal that I made with Darrell was, "If I give you this, you're going to have to give me one back. I'll look out for you now, you look out for me in the future." I figure that's going to be me showing an allegiance to Era 1. If I need a favor, I go to them, they'll pay me back. I thought that was a solid deal," shared Tony Raines.

The Challenge 40: Tony Raines shares his "solid deal" with Darrell Taylor before the elimination challenge

Initially, Tony and Averey were supposed to choose players to compete in the elimination challenge. Tony wanted to send Derek and Aviv, while Averey was friends with Derek, so she didn’t want to do that. On the other hand, The Challenge 40 star discussed with Darrell how he would save him, and then, in return, Darrell would "look out" for Tony in the future.

Hence, Tony and Averey decided to put themselves on the line and competed in the elimination challenge after disagreements.

"It didn't work out, but I stuck to my guns. As of right now, it's hard to say that you don't regret the decision that got you sent home when there's a million dollars on the line. I just really thought she'd change her mind. But here we are," shared Tony.

Later, when The Challenge 40 star Tony was asked whether he "didn’t try to win" during the elimination because he wanted to go home, Tony said that he had only heard that from Averey in person. He added that he hadn’t yet watched the episode, so he didn’t know how "it’s going to air" and was "disappointed."

Talking on the subject, Tony also said that he was giving everything his "brain" had, and nobody could sit there and say that he didn’t give 110 perfect out there.
