Paramount+ has scored big with Landman, the oil drama series created by Taylor Sheridan. It's become the third most-watched original show on the platform for 2024, with a whopping 9.90 billion minutes of eyeballs glued to the screen, says a report from Luminate. Now, hold on, that's without even counting the last two episodes of the season, which aired on January 5, 2025, because the data collection stopped on November 17.

Landman's got serious star power with Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore leading the way. It's about the world of West Texas oil, and people couldn't get enough of it. Even though some critics had issues with how the female characters were shown, the fans didn't seem to mind.

It was a big win for Paramount+, especially since another one of their shows, Tulsa King, snagged the fifth spot on the same chart. Landman Season 1 ended with a huge cliffhanger, so everyone's waiting for word on Season 2.

Let's see what made this show so popular with the audience!

What was Taylor Sheridan’s winning formula to make Landman a standout hit?

Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind fan favorites Yellowstone and 1883, brought his unique flair to the show Landman, blending gripping drama with the universal themes of ambition and the will to survive.

Billy Bob Thornton nailed his role as Tommy Norris, a character who's forced to step up to the plate after his pal Monty, played by Jon Hamm, unexpectedly passes away. Both fans and critics couldn't get enough of Thornton's complex and deeply nuanced performance.

Sheridan's ability to connect personal struggles with more significant societal issues is what keeps viewers interested. Landman quickly became a must-watch series for those craving intense storytelling and powerful character development.

Landman had a solid start with 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is way better than Yellowstone's first impression at 58%.

It seems people connected with the family drama when Tommy's kid Cooper starts dealing with oil leases and the funny bits with Ainsley and Angela, which made the business and cartel showdowns feel more relatable.

In 2024, Paramount+ stepped up its game and became a big name in the battle of streaming services. A show that helped it do that was Tulsa King, made by the same guy as Landman, Taylor Sheridan.

Regarding the number of viewers, it ranked fifth, which is rather remarkable. The industry believes that Paramount+'s success may be attributed to the variety of intriguing television series and films it offers to the US public.

They've got intense dramas that keep you on the edge of your seat, and they've got shows that are more like a nice, easygoing sitcom. Sheridan's shows are like the main dish that keeps everyone coming back for more.
