The sixth episode of Suits LA was titled Dester, and narratively speaking, the name was at the center of what proved to be Ted Black's first large-scale criminal defense trial in Los Angeles.
The latest episode of Suits LA also featured a rare bonding moment between Ted and Stuart after the latter had fired Ted from his firm some time ago. In his relentless pursuit to defend his client, Ted also made amends with his former partner and subsequent legal adversary Samantha.
Here's everything that we know about the latest episode of Suits LA on NBC.
Suits LA: A tricky criminal defense case led Ted Black to his first major win
In the previous episodes of Suits LA on NBC, Ted has been shown to get his legal practice kickstarted in Los Angeles. The latest episode saw the culmination of the first proper case that Ted had the opportunity to work on. The case involved film producer Lester who was arrested on charges of having murdered his friend and partner Simon.
As federal prosecutor Elizabeth made a compelling case for the prosecution, it seemed likely that Lester and Ted's case was doomed. This was further exacerbated by Lester's earlier admission that he had ended up killing Simon in self-defense. According to Lester's revealing confession to investigator Kevin, he found out that Simon was embezzling funds from their film production company, and when Lester confronted him with this news, Simon threatened to murder him, humiliatingly calling him 'Dester.'
This interaction happened in their backyard while they were shooting guns and in the ensuing struggle, Lester ended up shooting Simon to save himself. However, this version of events wasn't included in Ted's case of defense. Elizabeth began mounting several witnesses, including one who claimed that they were in the vicinity at the time of the crime and heard someone threatening to kill someone else just before the shot was fired.
Suits LA: Ted patches up with Stuart
Upon finding his back to the wall, Ted decides to enlist the help of Stuart as the latter is a brilliant criminal defense attorney. However, relations between the two of them were strained because Ted had previously stolen Lester from Stuart as a client and even punched Stuart in the face.
After reconciling their past differences, the duo stayed up all night to formulate a new claim of self-defense to strengthen Lester's case. In the following trial, they won after calling up evidence that had been submitted earlier while the prosecution was making its case.
