Daredevil: Born Again is officially bringing Matt Murdock, the fan-favorite blind lawyer turned vigilante, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The superhero crime drama is a revival of Netflix’s Daredevil, with several actors from the original series reprising their roles.

Charlie Cox, who returns as the titular character, has talked about what transpired with Matt in the years between Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again. In an interview with MovieWeb, the actor said the superhero has suffered a severe trauma that has given him an identity crisis:

“Some time has passed since the end of the series we did that ended in 2018... Matt has suffered a trauma that has meant that he's had to rethink his identity in a way that is probably more profound than we've seen before.”

Charlie Cox played Matt Murdock in all three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil between 2015 and 2018 and impressed the audience with his stellar performance. Since the show’s cancellation, fans have been demanding Charlie’s return as the lawyer with heightened abilities.

The demand is finally being fulfilled in Daredevil: Born Again. While Charlie did not reveal the details of the trauma endured by Matt between the events of the two shows, he did disclose that the incident sends him on a painful path that changes his life:

“He ends up going down a path which I think is best described as a band-aid that will have to be ripped off. Slowly and painfully.”

Vincent D'Onofrio, who is reprising his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, also highlighted how the new show will showcase his and Charlie’s characters as two broken men who have to trust each other to survive:

“The two of us...we're broken....you can think about the metaphor of vampires trying to live in the daylight. It's a struggle that they're going through. Huge credit to Dario [showrunner] and the producers who came up with this idea.”
“Whoever it was... bringing us together early on in this new season is something we haven't done before. And putting them in a position where they have to trust one another.”

Daredevil: Born Again also stars Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Zabryna Guevara as Sheila Rivera, Elden Henson as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter, and Jeremy Earl as Cole North.

The highly-anticipated show will premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. The first season comprises nine episodes, and a second season has already been confirmed by Marvel Entertainment.
