“Stoked to be back” — Virgin River star shares major update on Season 7 production

Virgin River Season 7 was announced in October 2024, even before the sixth chapter of the romantic drama premiered on Netflix. Ever since fans have been waiting for updates on the new season.

Actor Martin Henderson, who plays the male lead, Jack Sheridan, has now shared a major update that should leave the audience excited. Martin has taken to social media to announce that Virgin River Season 7 has officially begun filming. Posting a video from the first day of shoot, the actor wrote:

“So stoked to be back at it doing what I love for all of you who love the show.”

Virgin River Season 7 has begun filming

Martin Henderson took to Instagram on March 12, 2025, to announce he was back on the sets of Virgin River. The actor posted a video showing fans the gifts he received from Netflix on the first day of Season 7’s shoot. He wrote in the caption:

“Season 7 of #virginriver !!!!! Day 1 - here we go……!!!!”

The actor thanked Netflix for their support and fans for their love, and wrote:

“Thank you @netflix for your thoughtful gifts and the continued support and thank YOU to all the fans who keep us coming back here to make this cozy, heartfelt show. It’s an honor to be putting this thing out there for y’all.”

With its seventh season, Virgin River has achieved a rare feat and become one of the longest-running shows on Netflix. Based on Robyn Carr’s eponymous novel series, the show tells the story of Melinda 'Mel' Monroe, who moves from Los Angeles to the idyllic titular town and starts working as a midwife.

In the sixth season’s finale, Mel and Jack finally got married after facing a lot of trouble in their relationship. The upcoming season will focus on their lives as newlyweds, while introducing new conflicts in the story.

Netflix has revealed that two new characters will join the cast in the new installment. Riverdale star Cody Kearsley will portray Clay, an athletic boy with experience in rodeo. A Series of Unfortunate Events actress Sara Canning will star as Victoria, a former police officer who arrives in the town to investigate Doc’s clinic.

The main cast members returning in Season 7 include Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel, Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, Annette O'Toole as Hope McCrea, Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady, Colin Lawrence as John 'Preacher' Middleton, Tim Matheson as Vernon 'Doc' Mullins, and Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan.

Netflix has not yet announced the premiere date of Virgin River Season 7. The first six seasons are available to watch on the streaming platform.
