South Park is one of the longest-running animated shows on television, which has been on-air since 1997. However, no new season of the show came out in 2024, which kept fans waiting for the return of the foul-mouthed friends: Stan, Kyle, Eric and Kenny.

The wait might end soon as series co-creator, Matt Stone, has confirmed that a feature movie-length special episode of the show will be aired in 2025, and will be followed by some more episodes later in the year.

South Park 2025 movie special is a part of the creators’ deal with Paramount+, as per which a total of 14 feature-length episodes are to be produced for the streamer. The show has already released seven specials, with the previous one, The End of Obesity, airing in 2024.

Matt Stone Confirms the South Park 2025 Movie Special

Matt Stone talked about the South Park 2025 movie special in an interview with Bloomberg in October 2024. The creator was asked about the future of the franchise, to which he replied that the team is working on a special episode that will be released at the beginning of 2025. He said:

“Beginning of next year, we are coming back with one episode, and a bunch more in the second half of 2025. But we are working on something.”

South Park has been releasing movie specials since 2021, starting with Post COVID, which was aired on November 25, 2021. Other specials that have been broadcast so far include The Streaming Wars, Joining the Panderverse, and Not Suitable for Children.

More details about the South Park 2025 movie special, including its plot and release date, are currently awaited. Like other specials, it will also premiere on Paramount+. Meanwhile, the 27th season of the series is expected to premiere later this year.

The show has aired a new season every year since 1997. However, the creators decided to give the year 2024 a skip due to the US Presidential elections. Hence, the only content related to the franchise that was released last year was the special The End of Obesity, which came out in May.

A live-action South Park film is also in the works

Apart from the special episode, a live-action South Park film is also confirmed to be in development. Series creators, Matt Stone, and, Trey Parker, have collaborated with Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free for the comedy film.

The movie will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and will be released theatrically on July 4, 2025. Confirming the live-action project, Matt said in his interview:

“We are working on a movie. We are doing a movie with Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free and their company. And we are working on it, and it will hopefully come out July 4th weekend, opposite ‘Jurassic Park’ which is pretty funny.”

All seasons of the animated show are streaming on Paramount+.
