FX's Shōgun, set in feudal Japan, swept the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. It took home 14 wins on the second night of the event. The September 8 ceremony was held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, and the show nearly swept all categories in which it was nominated. This includes a win for Néstor Carbonell as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Anjin. The show is also expected to sweep the Primetime Emmys.

FX has just swept this year's Creative Arts Emmys, with Shōgun taking home more than half of the wins. If this wasn't enough, this period drama has outdone the previous heavyweights of the Emmy Awards, such as Game of Thrones, which took home 10 Creative Arts Emmys back in 2019.

Shōgun is an adaptation of the book by James Clavell. The show started as a limited series but ended up being a full-fledged drama. Its size and production design earned it wins in categories like casting, costumes, makeup, hairstyling, stunts, and cinematography.

The costume designer of the show, Carlos Rosario, was visibly overcome with emotion as he took to the stage to accept his award. He immediately dedicated it to his grandmother, who had passed away a decade ago.

A tearful Rosario shared how grateful he felt to be allowed to bring Japanese history and culture to life with his designs:

“This win is an extension of her legacy.”

Néstor Carbonell took home the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series award as one of the night's best moments, launching Shōgun into its winning streak. It continued to build up steam by ticking off victories in more technical categories like sound editing, sound mixing, and visual effects.

The FX's Creative Arts Emmy dominance wasn't limited to Shōgun. Its other favorite, The Bear, took home seven, including guest-starring wins for Jamie Lee Curtis and Jon Bernthal for their roles in the hit Christmas episode 'Fishes.'

Curtis, who won an Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once said backstage:

"I’m the luckiest girl in the world... these past few years have been the thrill of my creative life."

Bernthal chimed in with his gratitude, noting the show gets deep into family dynamics and emotional depth.

Shōgun is heating up going into the Primetime Emmys on the heels of eight nominations in six big categories, including drama series, and lead acting nods for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai.

With FX coming away with 27 awards, and strong nights from both Netflix and Hulu, it's shaping up to be a pretty interesting night at the Primetime ceremony on September 15.

You can watch the series on FX or stream it on Hulu.
