February 14, 2025, the date that Yellowjackets fans were waiting for, finally arrived. It was the day when the third season of the popular survival series premiered on Paramount+ with Showtime. Watching the two-episode premiere, fans noticed someone being a bit different on Yellowjackets Season 3. That certain someone is Charlotte "Lottie" Matthews, and she seems to be revealing personality changes in the new season.
Lottie, who is known for her alleged visions in Yellowjackets, is played by actresses Simone Kessell (adult version) and Courtney Eaton (teenage version). Fans know how intensely the younger Lottie had reacted to the events in the woods. Her adult self, however, has let her hair down at Shauna's home. Seeing Lottie a bit more relaxed than before, viewers of Yellowjacket Season 3 are hoping that she will now display lighter traits.
The actress playing the adult Lottie had some interesting teases for fans in a recent Collider interview. As a part of the tease, she spoke about her character's role in the current Yellowjackets season.
What did Simone Kessell say about Lottie's arc in the third season of Yellowjackets?
Kessell was interviewed by Collider after the Season 3 premiere, where she spoke about her Yellowjackets character's journey in the third season, and where her current mental state might take her in the upcoming episodes. She said:
"I think she has no grounding in Season 3. I think she’s euphoric, and I think she’s really having a childlike moment. I played her very light because I wanted to play her with big eyes and just delighted with life and playing each moment as it comes rather than commanding. She’s really euphoric, but she’s incredibly vulnerable, and that was so wonderful to play."
Apart from Lottie's mental state, Simone Kessell also revealed Lottie's interest in Shauna Sadecki's daughter Callie in another interview, with GamesRadar+. Lottie met Callie in the Yellowjackets Season 2 finale, titled Storytelling. In the interview, Kessell said:
"I think she's intrigued by her. At the end of season 2, we see Callie come in with a gun and she shoots Lottie, and she sees something in her which is bringing her back to the wilderness, so to speak. I think she believes that Shauna's child is perhaps the chosen one, or something. There's intrigue there, for sure. So she spends a lot of time casting her eyes on her and giving her a lot of attention. But yeah, Lottie is definitely intrigued."
Based on what Kessell said in these two interviews, we can ascertain that even if Lottie has left her wellness cult in Season 3, she perhaps hasn't left behind her old habits. But her intentions remain unclear. Probably the future episodes of Yellowjackets will shed light on Lottie's intentions.
Is Lottie really out of her cult? Find out by watching Yellowjackets Season 3 on Paramount+ with Showtime.
