Severance is a television program about people who work at Lumon Industries. Employees have a method known as "severance" in which they forget about their personal lives while at work and forget about their professional lives when they depart. This results in two distinct personalities: one for work and one for socializing.
Gemma is one of the show's important characters. She is played by Dichen Lachman in Severance who recently expressed her feelings over the huge response to her character's Season 2 plot.
As mentioned in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, even in the intricate sequences involving several incarnations of Gemma, she felt the experience to be really poignant and organic.
More about Gemma’s Season 2 ending in Severance
Gemma is portrayed by Dichen Lachman. She is a prominent character in Severance. She is originally thought to have perished in a car accident, which greatly upsets her husband Mark (played by Adam Scott).
However, it is eventually discovered that Gemma is alive and is being imprisoned in Lumon Industries. In the first season, she is presented as Ms. Casey, a wellness director on the severed floor who interacts with employees but has no recollection of her own identity.
The story of Gemma continues to unfold in Season 2. She turns out to be a participant in a series of tests designed to assess the severance procedure. Lumon manipulates and controls Gemma and other versions of herself. Mark eventually finds her true situation in the season finale and strives to help her.
However, in an unexpected change of events, Mark's innie chooses to stay with Helly rather than leave with Gemma. This choice is a watershed moment in the season since it exposes Mark's deep emotional connection to Helly above his wife.
Dichen Lachman, who portrays Gemma, has spoken out about the overwhelming love the program received following its Season 2 conclusion. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said
"It was really emotional. It felt so real that I got caught up in the story. Sometimes, as an actor, you really have to use your craft to get to where you need to get to. But on that day, it felt much deeper to me than some of the other things I’ve done in the past where I’ve had to really work hard to get to that place. "
She explained that, unlike other roles where she had to work hard to reach emotional moments, this scene felt much deeper and more natural to her.
Lachman added that it was difficult to create a character with so much depth since she had to play several different Gemmas.
