Catherine O'Hara has had a stunning role in Seth Rogen's The Studio as Continental Studios head Patty Leigh. The character is flawed, funny, and has a touch of grace that O'Hara brings to all her characters. Mostly known for her role as Moira Rose on Schitt's Creek, where she's a retired soap opera actress who dislikes her life in Schitt's Creek and has trouble adapting to the newer, less-generous surroundings. The role bagged her an Emmy and a Golden Globe, along with other major awards the show has received. As a favorite among TV shows, her role in The Studio is nothing short of awesome.

Being a strong woman and a committed professional, Patty's political strength helps her stay relevant in the industry as she deals with her failures in smart ways and turns her misfortunes into something greater. She gets fired by Rogen's Matt Remick, after which things take a turn as a greater opportunity arrives. Speaking about her character's low moment in a conversation with Variety, the actress says,

“I’ve been fired, and I’m still wailing on it. I had my life ripped out from under me by someone I considered my child, the bastard"

She then gets the opportunity to become the company's producer instead, as the actress adds,

“He offers me ‘producer,’ which I’ve always wanted to do. He’s such a student and lover of film, and it turns out the job is to kill them."

Who inspired Catherine O'Hara's role as Patty Leigh?

Seth Rogens has confirmed that Patty's role is inspired by Amy Pascal, the former Sony Pictures Entertainment head who he has worked with earlier. Pascal was involved in an infamous 2014 controversy where Sony's confidential data was leaked by hackers, and personal conversations between employees were out in the public. This included emails between Scott Rudin and Pascal where they criticized actors and even exchanged messages that were racially offensive to Barack Obama. Soon enough, Pascal stepped down as Sony's head and became more involved in filmmaking instead.

However, when asked if O'Hara took any inspiration from Pascal to portray the character, the actress denied it and said,

“I did not study anyone because I didn’t want to — I was afraid to"

Rogens, however, has spoken about how Pascal was an integral part of the show as he told The Wrap about how she has been an inspirational figure for him in many ways. Elaborating on her contribution to the series, Rogens says,

“Amy is someone who was a huge mentor to me. We literally were on the phone with her 48 hours ago, asking her advice on whether or not we should do something. We sent her the show as soon as it was finished, so she could watch it. We really came up at Sony under her leadership, and she was someone who taught us a ton about the industry and who was a really inspirational figure to us in a lot of ways.”

The Studio is available to stream on Apple TV.
