Reese Witherspoon's Legally Blonde prequel series receives a hopeful update from the actress herself.
The 2001 film starred Witherspoon as sorority queen Elle Woods, who navigated her way into a law school. Then, the 2003 sequel followed Elle chasing her political ambitions in Washington D.C. Now, the character is returning in a new form.
In April 2024, Variety reported that a Legally Blonde series is officially in development. It will act as a prequel to the 2001 film and will show Elle's origin story during her high school years. Shortly after the announcement, Reese Witherspoon's production company and Amazon Prime Video began auditioning a young actor for the lead role.
In her recent interviews, Witherspoon revealed some new details on the casting process. While speaking with People magazine, the actress shared a hopeful update about casting. Here's what she said,
“I'm really excited. We start in March. I'm really excited because we're going through the casting process right now andwe're picking who is going to play the young me,”
She further added:
“It's kind of a trip. It's so exciting too, to watch these young girls that are so filled with enthusiasm and excitement and completely... There are so many good ones. That's the hard thing because there's so many good people to choose from,”

Reese Witherspoon's iconic Elle Woods is all set a make a comeback through a prequel series. She will serve as an executive producer on this project that is in development at Amazon's Prime Video. After the announcement, the actress shared a statement about this project and revealed what to expect from it:
"I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?"
She further added:
"I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine—along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell—for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!"
In September 2024, Witherspoon announced the open casting process for this project through an Instagram post:
Meanwhile, the Oscar-winning actress is about to co-star in You're Cordially Invited, a new comedy film with Will Ferrell. It marks their first acting collaboration. They will be joined by Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, and Jack McBrayer.
