The 11th episode of The Masked Singer Season 12 was the semi-final, featuring three finalists. However, after her identity was revealed, AJ Michalka, aka Strawberry Shortcake, was eliminated from the competition.
In her December 11, 2024, interview with Variety, the singer revealed her original plan to join the reality show with her sister Aly.
"Initially, we were supposed to do it together, and we were like, this would be really fun to do as a team. But it was going to be really tricky to schedule. So I ended up doing it on my own. And she fully supported it."

The December 11, 2024, semi-final episode of The Masked Singer Season 12 featured yet another elimination from the show. It was Strawberry Shortcake, whose identity was revealed as the songwriter and singer AJ Michalka.
Fans might know the duo Aly and AJ, from which AJ was the Strawberry Shortcake in the competition.
As the singer revealed in her interview, she and her sister Aly were supposed to participate in The Masked Singer Season 12. However, because of schedule conflicts, only AJ was able to participate. Aly fully supported her decision to compete on the show, as revealed by AJ Michalka.
"The challenge and the excitement came from knowing that I had never really performed on stage without my sister. I wanted to challenge myself as a solo artist and see how far I could get. And I had a blast."
Further in her interview, The Masked Singer star revealed that without her sister, she "never really" performed on stage. However, without her sister, she would have to go solo on the show, which AJ took as a challenge for herself.
The 12th season of the Fox reality show premiered with 15 participants, each with a new costume. They were: Ship, Leaf Sheep, Woodpecker, Dust Bunny, Goo, Strawberry Shortcake, Chess Piece, Bluebell, Buffalo, Showbird, Wasp, Sherlock Hound, Royal Knight, Ice King and Macaron.
Two finalists were left after Strawberry Shortcake's identity was revealed in The Masked Singer Season 12 Episode 11. They were Wasp and Buffalo.
