Reacher Season 3 Episode 4 finally answers the long-burning question as to why Reacher always avoids telling Susan Duffy about what happened with Quin back in the day. The episode starts when we see Reacher driving back to Zachary's mansion in his car while he is informed that he will not be the latter's new lieutenant, as per Julius McCabe's orders.
However, soon after it is revealed that the name Julius holds no meaning("a dead end") and the one Susan thought to be him turns out to be the evil Xavier Quinn - an ex-military whom Reacher is after. That takes us back in time to the story of Dominique Kohl, a young and energetic officer who got assigned an important case under the guidance of Reacher.
The duo planned the investigation well, leaving no loose ends and almost got hold of Quinn (who was selling out state secrets to anti-nationals in the US). However, Reacher sends her to do the final arrest (because he wants her to have full credit for such a dangerous mission) but his decision costs Dominique's life. Who was Dominique Kohl in Reacher Season 3 Episode 4?
As seen in Reacher Season 3 Episode 4, "E7 Sergeant First Class Dominique Kohl' was an outstanding officer who got involved in a crucial case of national security under Major Jack Reacher. Reacher narrates the whole story to Susan and it is shown in the form of a flashback.
Using her tactical and combat skills, Dominique soon earned a place on the team and also helped out Reacher in tracking down Xavier Quinn. However, Dominique met a tragic end while she was on her final move to arrest Quinn and ended up dead.
The fourth episode is mostly about her story and how she contributed to the case - something that presently holds value in Susan Duffy and Reacher's investigation aimed to burn down Zachary's secret business.
How did Dominique and Reacher get hold of Xavier Quinn and unearth his evil intentions?
Xavier Quinn, an ex-military intelligence officer has had his roots down deep in the system. He was suspected of having connections to a matter of national interest - a case where state secrets were being revealed to a Syrian man(who had ties in the military) named Safwan Qasim.
For this Quinn, blackmailed a guy named Roland and abducted his daughter to make him do some nasty work for him. It is through Dominique's interrogation expertise and Reacher's guidance that they learn that Quinn is at the bottom of all this.
Reacher and his team, thus, soon track down Safwan and put him under pressure to give up on his involvement with Quinn. In return, he is guaranteed clear passage out of the United States.
The showdown takes place when Reacher gets hold of the military blueprints that were being sold out by Quinn. He plans to make the final arrest and with Dominique's quick presence, they can connect the dots and find out Quinn's hideout in Linton. Reacher allows Dominique to take the lead on the final move and sends her to get Quinn. Hardly did he know that it would end up being a wrong call on his part!
Does Quinn die in Reacher Season 3 Episode 4?
Reacher senses something must be wrong when Dominique gets late on her final mission. Upon General Leon Garber's instructions, he sends her a text asking if everything is fine.
But Reacher becomes sure that something is off note when the reply comes from the other end mentioning him as 'Sir' - Dominique never called him that after he once told her not to.
He narrows down the possible locations where Quinn might have abducted her - that leads him to a safe house in Linton. Once Reacher reaches there, he finds his fear slowly coming true.
He eventually finds Dominique hanging from the ceiling all covered in blood, dead. A shocked Reacher goes on to find Quinn and kills him by putting a bullet in his head. Viewers see Quinn falling off a cliff into a stream of violently flowing water - confirming the fact that he is dead. But that is at all not the case as he somehow survived the attack.
As Reacher later mentions to Susan while telling her the story, the 0.22 caliber's small round did not make it into Quinn's brains and got embedded in the skull. However, he was lucky enough to survive the fall.
Reacher Season 3 Episode 4 ending shows Reacher back at Zachary's mansion where he has a heartwarming encounter with Richard Beck while teaching him boxing skills. On the other hand, Susan is out with her partner Guillermo to track down Teresa.
While all this goes on, Zachary comes and spills the beans to Reacher about the location of Angel Doll's laptop - probably located somewhere off Route 26 at the "commercial tubing facility" owned by the former. Coincidentally, Susan ends up at the same place while on her search for Teresa.
The episode closes on a cliffhanger as Reacher tries to outrace Julius and Zachary's men to the spot and dials Susan's number to warn her of the incoming danger. But his call goes straight to voicemail and the armed men behind them reach the facility before Reacher does.
The fourth episode is more like a throwback to Dominique's contribution to the arrest of Xavier Quinn - hence, the name of the episode. She became a martyr while serving her nation and eventually led Reacher to one of the most dangerous individuals operating from within the military.
Now the question remains whether Reacher will be able to save Susan or will he lose another good friend and partner while carrying out a covert operation - only time will tell us. Moreover, the plot is reaching its climax already and we can anytime expect anything unprecedented.
