Reacher actor explains why Alan Ritchson would make a great Batman

Prime Video’s Reacher is among the streaming service's highest-rated shows. With his accurate portrayal of the stoic protagonist, Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson has become one of the fan-favorite characters. He is also among the few actors fans want to see become the new Batman in James Gunn’s DCU.

Even his costar, Roberto Montesinos, who plays DEA Guillermo Villanueva in Reacher Season 3, agrees with this sentiment and thinks he will be a perfect Batman because he showcases all the abilities that Batman is required to have.

While talking to ScreenRant, Montesinos said:

"He would kill Batman. Why did Tom Cruise pick Reacher? Because he was so well-written and so complex in stillness. Batman's the same kind of thing. He's very stoic; he's got a mask. I think he would be the best Batman we've ever had. We've had some good ones, but I think he would be the best Batman we've ever had."

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Montesinos also compared Ritchson’s portrayal of Jack Reacher to Batman. He explained that Reacher’s personality and Batman’s personality are similar, most importantly their performance with eyes. He said:

"What would he bring to that role? First of all, his work ethic, his research, his command of a character. For example, in Lee Child's books, when you're reading the book? Reacher walks into a room, and there are three pages of thought; everything that he's clocking. How do you do that without those words? He does it with his face, with his eyes. And he said to me once, "Every movement of your eye indicates to the audience a new thought."

With his striking height and colossal build, Ritchson does have a similar physicality that Batman should have. Moreover, his stoic but not emotionally absent character as Jack Reacher has also shown that he can be a good fit to become the new Batman in DCU.

In a 2024 interview with BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Reacher star Alan Ritchson also expressed that he would love to be the new caped crusader. He said:

"I would love to. I would absolutely love to. It’s one of the coolest characters of all time."

He also shared that he was honored that fans wanted him to play Batman. He said:

"The fact that people are interested in me playing Batman is a real honor and privilege. It’s one of the first characters I fell in love with as a child."

Although there hasn’t been any announcement about who will play Batman, Ritchson along with other actors like Jake Gyllenhaal and Jensen Ackles, is a fan-favorite choice to become the next Batman.
