The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh will not be returning to the screens as Prime Video has canceled the show after one season. The comedy series premiered on Amazon Freevee in October 2024 and later moved to Prime Video.
Inspired by series creator Vijal Patel’s own life, the show follows an Indian immigrant family, who gets at loggerheads with their polar opposite neighbors shortly after moving to the US. As the tension between the two families continues, the immigration officers also get involved in the mess.
The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh earned mostly positive reviews from critics for its offbeat storyline and humorous narrative. However, the show could not match up to the viewership ratings of other Prime Video shows.
The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh canceled after one season
As per a report by Deadline, Prime Video is not moving ahead with a second season of The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh. Though the streamer did not announce the official reason behind the show’s cancellation, the move was likely made due to low viewership and Amazon Freevee’s closure.
The series premiered on Freevee, Amazon’s ad-supported and free streaming platform, on October 17, 2024. However, just a few weeks after the release, Amazon announced it would be shutting down Freevee and transferring its content to Prime Video.
The comedy series then moved to the streaming giant, which has chosen not to renew it. However, the development still comes as a surprise as the show has been praised by critics and has a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
At the same time, series star Ethan Suplee had hinted the team already had ideas for a second season. During an interview with The Nerds of Color ahead of the series premiere, Suplee said:
“[Series creator Vijal Patel] went through and… got me through the first season and talked to me about the second season and talked to me… And it's a mystery wrapped in a riddle that just keeps kind of going.”
Though the team seemed hopeful of a renewal, Prime Video has ultimately decided to pull the plug on the show.
