American actor Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, known for his work on Magnum PI and Street Fighter, passed away on Monday. His son, Manoah Peter Tuiasosopo, reported to TMZ that Peter died due to heart complications in Arizona.
Earlier, he took to Facebook to announce the sad news of the actor's passing on Monday, who was 61. Manoah notes Peter was "a trailblazer for Polynesian actors in Hollywood." He started his acting career in 1991 with Necessary Roughness, where he played the role of Manumana, "the Slender."
His breakthrough role came in the 1994 live-action movie Street Fighter, where he played the role of E. Honda, along with stars Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raúl Juliá. He then became a popular name and appeared in many titles, mostly in guest capacity.
Peter Navy Tuiasosopo passes away at 61
Peter Navy Tuiasosopo's son took to his Facebook to announce his father's passing on February 9, 2025. He wrote:
“With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16 am,”
"My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here ... His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt."
Born and raised in San Pedro, Los Angeles, California, Peter's father was in the US Army, and his mother was a registered nurse. He was one of seven children, out of which his brother, Mike Tuiasosopo, was a professional football coach, which might have inclined him to the game.
He also played professional football. In the 1987 NFL Season, after many players went on strike, he was chosen as a player for the Los Angeles Rams replacement team and played three games at center.
Peter Navy Tuiasosopo appeared in many titles, including Batman and Robin, Charlie's Angels, The Fast and the Furious, and The Scorpion King. He has starred alongside big names in the industry like John Cena and Adam West.
In addition to movies, he was also known for his guest appearances in TV series and sitcoms like NCIS, Mayans MC, Black-ish, New Girl, and Mob City.
The last listed role of his career is the reboot of the American drama series Magnum PI. His death will surely have a lasting impact on the industry and his family.
