The Last of Us Season 2 will broadcast on HBO on April 13, 2025. It follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) five years after season 1. The season is based on the computer game The Last of Us Part II and features Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).

The world remains unsafe as a fatal sickness transforms individuals into zombie-like creatures in the plot of the series. Recently, a press conference was moderated by Variety for The Last of Us Season 2.

There, Pedro Pascal talked about the five-year gap. He said the show's creators did a good job setting it up. Pascal also mentioned how emotionally charged he finds playing Joel. This was majorly because he can relate to the character's suffering.

More about Pedro Pascal and the 5 year jump on The Last of Us Season 2

Pedro Pascal is a famous performer. He has portrayed numerous noteworthy characters. He starred in The Mandalorian after becoming well-known as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones.

He became much more well-known after playing Joel Miller in HBO's The Last of Us. The Last of Us is a story about a planet ravaged by a fatal fungal epidemic. Joel, a rugged survivor, is assigned the mission of transporting a teenage girl, Ellie, across the country. Ellie is unique in that she is immune to the infection, which means she could help develop a cure.

Joel and Ellie develop a strong friendship while traveling. Joel, who has lost his own daughter, begins to care for Ellie like a father. The first season concluded with Joel making a difficult decision: save Ellie or risk jeopardizing the possibility of a cure.

The events following Joel's choice will be the main subject of season 2. Ellie's journey as she matures in this perilous world will also be depicted. In addition to introducing new characters, the narrative will delve into themes of loss, survival, and retribution. The tale of the video game, which has many poignant moments and surprising turns, is what the show's developers are pursuing.

A five-year time jump is one of The Last of Us season 2's biggest changes. Now that she is older, Ellie's life experiences have shaped who she is today. This leap allows the narrative to explore new facets of the characters and move them in new directions.

Pedro Pascal recently expressed his thoughts on the time jump. In a press conference moderated by Variety, he further added,

"I feel like it was a beautiful setup by Craig and Neil"

Although Pedro Pascal expressed gratitude for his return, he thought that this part was unlike any other on The Last of Us Season 2. He said,

"It is hard for me to separate what the characters are going through and how it makes me feel, in a way that isn’t very healthy. And so I kind of feel their pain"
