Known for entertaining fans for decades, Saturday Night Live (SNL) completes fifty years and brings a new docuseries titled SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night on Peacock. It will honor the legendary late-night sketch comedy show and highlight its history, iconic sketches, and behind-the-scenes processes.

Created by Lorne Michaels, SNL emerged as a cultural phenomenon, and now, after fifty years, SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night will feature contributions from over 60 individuals, including former and current cast members. Fans can explore the show's milestones like the season that shaped its modern era and more.

So, if you're excited about the four-part docuseries, don't miss out on checking the first trailer that's already out. It will also revisit famous sketches like Two Wild & Crazy Guys, More Cowbell, and a few more. While talking about SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, executive producer Morgan Neville stated:

"I’ve been obsessed with Saturday Night Live as long as I can remember."

He continues:

"For SNL50, I’ve been lucky to collaborate with some of my favorite independent filmmakers to tell some deeper stories of SNL. Taken together, these standalone episodes give a new perspective of SNL and what makes it work."

Along with behind-the-scene goodies, viewers will also be offered to explore how auditions work and the dynamics of the writers’ room. Neville is an Oscar-winning documentarian who aims to offer a deep dive into the legacy of Saturday Night Live.

The first trailer for SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night has come out

As mentioned above, SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night has been made to celebrate the legacy of Saturday Night Live. As seen in the trailer, it will include interviews with SNL stars like Kenan Thompson, Seth Meyers, Will Ferrell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Amy Poehler.

They are seen looking back at the time they first stepped into the iconic show and recalling the funniest and most memorable time. Since the show is incomplete without its cold open, the trailer also features its alumni saying, "Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!".

Not only this, but the trailer also focuses on the often-overlooked writers who create the funniest sketches to engage the audience. Fans can see Larry David being asked a question if writers get what they deserve, to which everyone replies with a "no" and David says "Oh dear, you’ve really stepped on a land mine here".

As for the release date, fans don't have to wait for long as SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night will hit Peacock on January 16, 2025. So, make sure you don't miss one of the biggest celebrations of an acclaimed TV show through a four-part docuseries.
