Paramount has decided not to go ahead with another season of the Frasier reboot. The sitcom, a revival of a 1990s and 2000s series of the same name, premiered on Paramount+ in 2023 with much fanfare.

However, as per a report by Deadline, the streaming platform is done with the show after only two seasons. Though the show’s fans would be disappointed with the development, it does not come as a surprise, since the reboot could not match up to the acclaim and viewership received by the original show.

Producers, CBS Studios, are now pitching the show to other streamers to save it from cancelation. Starring Kelsey Grammer in the titular role, Frasier follows the radio psychiatrist as he returns to Boston, his former workplace, to bond with his son.

Frasier was canceled by Paramount+ after two seasons

Frasier debuted on Paramount+ in October 2023 and was followed by a second season in September 2024, which concluded in November 2024. Now two months later, the streaming platform has canceled the sitcom.

Though they have not announced the official reason behind the cancelation, the series’ low viewership might have led the streamer to move away from it. The sitcom could not become a major success on Paramount+ like the streaming platform's other shows, which include the massively popular Yellowstone spin-offs, Mayor of Kingstown, and Landman.

Meanwhile, CBS Studios is willing to shop the series on other platforms like Prime Video and Hulu. If any of these streamers pick up the show, it will be saved from cancellation and move ahead with a third season. However, the first two seasons would continue streaming on Paramount+.

As per Deadline, CBS Studios is not transferring the show to its own TV network, CBS, as there are no slots available for a new show. While the reboot is likely to be wrapped up after two seasons, the original show aired 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004.

The reboot marked Kelsey Grammer's return as Frasier Crane

Developed by Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli, the reboot saw Kelsey Grammer reprise his role as Frasier Crane. The actor debuted as the character in NBC's Cheers before getting his own spin-off series.

The revival showcases him as a retired psychologist who moves to Boston after his wife’s death and bonds with his son. Meanwhile, he also reconnects with his past friends. Still figuring out the retirement life, he takes up a job as a professor at Harvard University.

The reboot served a heavy dose of nostalgia as apart from Grammer, a number of other actors also reprised their roles from the original show, including Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle, Bebe Neuwirth as Lilith Sternin, Dan Butler as Bob Briscoe, Harriet Sansom Harris as Bebe Glazer, and Edward Hibbert as Gil Chesterton.

The show also starred Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Toks Olagundoye as Professor Olivia Finch, Anders Keith as David Crane, Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Nicholas Lyndhurst as Professor Alan Cornwall, Jimmy Dunn as Bernard "Moose", and Renee Pezzotta as Smokey.

Frasier seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Paramount+.
