Pacific Rim TV series picked up by Amazon

It was revealed in 2024 that Pacific Rim, a live-action prequel series, would be produced by the production company Chronology. This series is the first project picked up by Chronology in a partnership with Legendary. Jason Clodfelter, the president of Legendary Television, talked about Heisserer's involvement with the project:
"Eric is a multitalented, prolific creator whose track record of critical and commercial successes speaks for itself. We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, with a new entry in the epic, globally popular ‘Pacific Rim’ universe. We are certain their vision will make for an enthralling expansion to Legendary’s beloved franchise."
Heisserer, the co-founder of the production company, is an Academy Award-nominated, celebrated TV and film writer with titles like Bird Box and Shadow and Bone under his belt. Heisserer is a writer as well as an executive producer under the banner of Chronology, his production company for this live-action prequel. Along with this series, the franchise still has potential for more films.
The official description of the original film from the franchise reads:
"When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are synched via a neural bridge, called 'The Drift.' But as the enemy grows more powerful with each attack, even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju."
The original film in this franchise was the 2013 release directed by Oscar and Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro, from a screenplay by him and Travis Beacham. The movie starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi grossed more than $400 million globally at the box office. The sequel to the 2013 film was released in 2018 and was followed by an anime series, which aired for two seasons on Netflix in 2021-22.
