Oscars 2025: Dune: Part Two bags back-to-back awards in Best Sound and Visual Effects categories

Dune: Part Two bagged back-to-back accolades at the 97th Academy Awards in the Best Sound and Visual Effects categories. The close race against big contenders like Wicked and A Complete Unknown concludes with triumph for the franchise.

Dune (2021) was a box-office hit and, following Denis Villeneuve's success, a second part was released in March 2024 - drawing some attention from fans. The sound design and exceptional visual effects of Dune: Part Two were rewarded at the Oscars 2025 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The film also got recognition in other categories, namely Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Production Design, and Best Picture.

Dune: Part Two emerges in flying colors at Oscars 2025; bags awards in two back-to-back categories

Among some top contenders such as A Complete Unknown, Wicked, The Wild Robot, and Emilia Perez, Dune: Part Two took home Best Sound and Visual Effects awards. The movie stars A Complete Unknown, lead Timothee Chalamet, who was among the favorite picks for the Best Actor at this year's Oscars.

Marvel star Scarlett Johansson presented the award for Best Sound Category alongside visionary actress and film icon June Squibb. On the other hand, Severance helmer Ben Stiller was seen on stage presenting the award in the Best Visual Effects category.

Richard King received major recognition as the Supervising Sound Editor cum Designer for Dune: Part Two. He was joined by an expert visual effects team comprising Paul Lambert, Gerd Nefzer, Stephen James, and Rhys Salcombe.

Paul Lambert worked as the supervisor for visual effects production. Stephen and Rhys supervised the visual effects(DNEG), while Gerd was in charge of special effects for Dune: Part Two.

Viewers who have already had a glimpse of Denis Villeneuve's iconic film are quite aware of how much a good sound and visual effects team contributed to the overall success of the film. Even the Oscars 2025 predictions had Dune: Part Two as the top favorite pick in the above-mentioned categories.
