Only Murders In The Building Season 5 breaks silence with exciting production updates and here's what we know

Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as the detective-podcast trio are all set to return in Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building season 5. The official social media handles of Hulu and the show announced the start of the upcoming season’s production. While no other information has been shared as yet, we can expect the new season to be centred around the mysterious death of the beloved doorman of the building, Lester played by Teddy Coluca.

Only Murders In The Building is a comedy series on Hulu created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman. Martin and Hoffman executive produced the series along with Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal.

The series follows three strangers-turned-friends who live in a posh building called Arconia in New York City. Their lives get intertwined because of a murder investigation, and they go on to form a friendship and start a true crime podcast. The show, which premiered in 2021, has four seasons with 10 episodes each.

Only Murders in the Building has been a favourite with fans and critics alike. The series recently won Martin Short the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor and the cast won Outstanding Performance by Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

What do we know of Only Murders in the Building Season 5?

The star cast comprises Steve Martin as Charles Haden-Savage, Martin Short as Oliver Putnam and Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora, who will reprise their respective roles. The recurring cast in the series, including Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard Morris, Paul Rudd as Glen Stubbins, Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin, Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Donna Williams and Jackie Hoffman as Uma Heller, could also be part of the new season.

At the end of season 4 of Only Murders in the Building, Oliver and Loretta get married in the Arconia. After the wedding, a woman called Sofia Caccimelio (played by Téa Leoni) approaches Charles and Mabel requesting them to look into her husband’s disappearance, who had a connection with the building as well. They dispute the connection. Later the trio find Lester, Arconia’s doorman, dead in the fountain.

The upcoming season will revolve around the death of Lester as the three lead characters take forward the murder mystery podcast and investigate the case. The new season could look into Lester’s background and his employment with the building.

Hoffman shared a picture of Martin and him back on the set of Only Murders in the Building on Instagram. Hoffman spoke about the show to TVLine after season 4’s finale. He said,

‘There are a few elements within the story that we’re telling for Season 5 that, certainly, I hope make people happy. But it’s both a further delving into the dynamics within the building and its people — tenants we have grown to love that we may have missed a little bit here and there, but also some new faces as well that are in the building that we haven’t yet discovered… and some ripe opportunities for lovely guest star hits, too.’

Only Murders in the Building has had a stellar star cast every season and it is possible that even season 5 could see some well-known actors joining the ensemble. While the release date is yet to be announced, going by the previous seasons, the show could have a late summer release.
