Liz Feldman, creator of Netflix's No Good Deed, has opened up about the shocking Season 1 finale and the unexpected twists that have left viewers talking. The dark comedy, centered around three families vying to buy the same Los Feliz house, didn’t just focus on real estate, it unraveled secrets, lies, and even murder.

The finale revealed that the tragic death of Jacob Morgan wasn’t an accident caused by his sister Emily, as his parents believed. Instead, it was their neighbor Margo, played by Linda Cardellini, who pulled the trigger. Feldman explained that Margo’s affair with Jacob led to the fatal confrontation. Jacob had entered Margo’s house, dressed as a burglar, to take back gifts he had given her. When he threatened to expose their relationship, Margo shot him, unknowingly moments before Emily fired her own gun.
Feldman told Variety in December 2024 that the reveal was carefully planned to shift the story’s perspective.
“We wanted viewers to think one way all season, then show how different the truth could look when all the pieces come together.” She added that Linda Cardellini’s performance as Margo balanced intensity and vulnerability. “Linda told me she wanted to play someone completely different from her Dead to Me character. She said, ‘I want to be a badass bitch this time.’ And we went with it.”
The episode ended with the house finally being sold to Sarah and Leslie, played by Poppy Liu and Abbi Jacobson, who decided to move in despite the dark history.
Feldman explained, “They know what happened, but sometimes knowing the full truth allows you to move forward instead of fearing it.”
While Netflix hasn’t announced a second season, Feldman hinted that there’s more story to tell.
“We’ve set things up in a way where we can dive even deeper into these characters. I’m ready if Netflix is.” Feldman said.
What happened in No Good Deed Season 1 Episode 8?
The Season 1 finale of No Good Deed brings all the secrets to light, closing out the Morgans’ chaotic journey with a mix of closure and new beginnings. The episode focuses on unraveling the mystery behind Jacob Morgan’s death, a tragedy that shaped much of the tension throughout the season.
Early in the episode, Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) and Paul (Ray Romano) finally learn the full truth about what happened the night their son Jacob died. For most of the season, they believed their daughter Emily (Chloe East) had accidentally shot and killed Jacob, mistaking him for a burglar. But a series of discoveries flips the story.
Flashbacks reveal that Jacob was having an affair with their neighbor, Margo (Linda Cardellini). After Margo ended things, Jacob, wearing a mask, broke into her house to take back the expensive gifts he had given her — items he had stolen from other neighbors. Margo caught him, and then chased him back to the Morgan residence.
When Jacob tried to enter his home, Margo fired a gun at him from the yard. At the same time, Emily, terrified by the sight of a masked figure breaking in, fired her gun.
For years, the Morgans believed Emily’s bullet had killed Jacob. But in the finale, Lydia and Paul learn that it was Margo’s shot that caused his death. Emily’s guilt and self-blame had been misplaced all along. The truth finally gives the Morgans a sense of relief, allowing them to grieve without carrying the weight of false blame.
The episode ends with the Morgans selling their house to Sarah (Poppy Liu) and Leslie (Abbi Jacobson), a couple expecting their first child. Meanwhile, Margo’s lies and manipulations catch up with her. She is arrested after surviving a fire set by her husband JD (Luke Wilson), her burned face serving as a reminder of the destruction she caused.
Creator Liz Feldman explained the twist was about exposing hidden layers of guilt and survival. She said it gave the Morgans a path to heal while showing how far someone like Margo would go to protect herself, no matter the cost.
