Law & Order: SVU has been on air for 26 years, and there have been several cast entries and exits over the seasons. One character that people still fondly remember is Alexandra "Alex" Cabot, the attorney who joined the crime drama in the second season and made her final appearance in season 19.
Cabot, played by Stephanie March, has been away from the procedural series for over six years, and fans are still hoping for her return to the show. March has now finally talked about her potential comeback in Law & Order: SVU.
In an interview with People Magazine, the actress revealed she is open to playing Alexandra Cabot again if the writers are able to come up with a good story for her character:
“I think it would depend on the story, but they've got some good writers. Never say never, right?”
Stephanie March talks about her potential return in Law & Order: SVU
In the interview, Stephanie March joked that if fans start a campaign demanding her return, Alex Cabot might be written back into the story of Law & Order: SVU. She added that she is still in touch with her former co-stars Christopher Meloni, Mariska Hargitay, and BD Wong:
“I guess if people still write, you could do a write-in campaign. That would be my only suggestion. The good news is, I get to see Chris and Mariska and BD [Wong] and all of those other wonderful people with regularity, so that's good.”
March also talked about how she wishes the best for her former colleagues on the show and said:
“I just hope they keep their jobs like the rest of us. That's the most you can hope for any actor right now. Just keep it our jobs.”
March joined Law & Order: SVU in season 2 in 2000 and remained a series regular till season 5. She then started making guest or recurring appearances on the show and was seen in several episodes. Her final appearance in the series was in 2019 when she guest-starred in Season 9, Episode 19.
Meanwhile, March also got her own off-series in 2006, when the legal drama Conviction premiered on NBC. The series focused on Alex Cabot, who moved to New York City and led a group of young attorneys as the Bureau Chief ADA.
March has more recently been seen in the shows Naomi and Harlan Coben’s Shelter and in the film Origin. Meanwhile, Law & Order: SVU continues to draw viewers with some intriguing cases in every episode.
The show currently stars Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson, Octavio Pisano as Joe Velasco, Ice-T as Odafin "Fin" Tutuola, Peter Scanavino as Dominick "Sonny" Carisi, Jr., Juliana Aidén Martinez as Kate Silva, and Kevin Kane as Terry Bruno.
