After the release of the three-part docuseries, American Murder: Gabby Petito, the victim's mother has shared her reaction. For those unaware of the tragic case, the docuseries examines the terrifying death of 22-year-old Gabby Petito, who first went missing and was then found dead.

This goes back to 2021 when Petito was on a trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, during which the two had arguments that even caught the eyes of some cops along the way. The Netflix docuseries features the recorded videos when Petito was alive, and despite Laundrie's rude behavior, he wasn't arrested.

However, what is currently making headlines is Gabby Petito's mother, Nichole Schmidt's reaction to the use of AI for her daughter's voice. She told The Independent that:

"I think it's weird and because we know her actual voice, [it] is a little off. It's just hard to hear."

While the parents allowed the makers to use AI, it wasn't normal for them to hear a voice that wasn't their daughter's. Michael Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason, the filmmakers behind American Murder: Gabby Petito aimed to reveal everything from Gabby's perspective because the true-crime docuseries is "her story".

Being Gabby's mother, Nichole Schmidt knows her daughter's voice, and after hearing the one developed through AI, she felt a little weird. However, the voice recreation technology was crucial to dive deep into Petito's story.

However, Brian Laundrie's parents stated their attorney, calling the Netflix docuseries one-sided:

"The documentary contained many inaccuracies, incorrect juxtapositions of timelines, and misstatements and omissions of fact — perhaps deliberate to capture their ‘truth’, perhaps due to simple error."

However, Michael Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason had already explained that the docuseries is all about Gabby, as he said while speaking to US Weekly:

"We had so much material from her parents that we were able to get. All of her journals since she was young and there was so much of her writing... At the end of the day, we wanted to tell the story as much through Gabby as possible. It's her story."

When Gabby's remains were found, investigators initiated a search of Brian Laundrie who had already killed himself. As seen in the Netflix docuseries, Brian left multiple letters in which he mentioned killing Gabby as an act of "mercy" because she was in pain.

He later realized that his life is incomplete without her, and dying in an isolated place where his body would be eaten up might ease her parents' pain. Both, Brian and Gabby's parents were devasted to learn about the loss as they loved them dearly.
