Netflix has canceled That 90s Show after 2 seasons: Actor Kurtwood Smith confirms

After 2 wonderful seasons, That 90s Show has been officially canceled by Netflix as confirmed by the lead actor Kurtwood Smith. The spin-off of That 70s Show debuted last year on January 19, 2023, and gained traction among fans of the OG sitcom.

Season 1 had merely 10 episodes, known as Part 1, whereas Season 2 consisted of 16 episodes. Each sitcom episode had a runtime of anywhere between 21-30 minutes.

As mentioned, the actor who played Grandpa Red in That 90s Show broke the news via a post on Instagram writing a lengthy and heartfelt note. Addressing rumors about there being a Season 3 of the sitcom he disclosed:

“I know you have been asking me when Season 3 is coming, but I have tough news…Netflix will not be renewing.”

The veteran actor thanked the fandom worldwide for their earnest and relentless support for ‘Grandpa Red.’ Smith highlighted his interaction with fans claiming he appreciated people reaching out to him via his DMs, stopping him on a street, and praising him for the role.

Smith continued expressing his fondness for embodying his character in That 90s Show and gushed about the essence of it and praised his cast members saying:

“This show had so much heart behind it and the most wonderful cast, writers, directors, producers, and crew an actor could hope to work with.”

Fans of That 90s Show flooded the comment section with love and regards followed by a hint of sadness.

Fans were devastated by the news of Netflix scrapping the show and claimed they needed more of it. Several also pleaded with the OTT to reconsider their decision since it was a wholesome show.

Thus far, the sitcom remains canceled with no official word from Netflix about a revival or another spinoff.


What was That 90s Show about?

Originally based on That 70s Show, That 90s Show brought back the OG cast members like Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace, Debra Jo Rupp, Laura Prepon, Wilmer Valderrama, and Mila Kunis along with several new faces, especially the grandkids.

This dramedy sitcom's primary plot revolves around the lives of Grace and Pinciotti’s daughter, Leia living in Wisconsin with her dear grandparents, Red and Kitty at Point Palace.

The sitcom maps the adventures of Leia living out her summers making friends and falling in love with Kutcher and Kunis’ son, Jay Kelso. Getting some much-needed life advice from Red and Kitty is also a big part of the show.


Both Seasons of That 90s Show are still available to binge only on Netflix.
