Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2: Amazon MGM Studios reportedly eyeing Yellowjackets star Sophie Thatcher for the lead role

Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 might have found its Mrs. Smith as Sophie Thatcher is in the talks to play the lead role in the series. As per a report by Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios wants to cast the Yellowjackets actress as Mrs. Smith in the next installment of the Prime Video series.

Meanwhile, Mark Eydelshteyn has already been confirmed as the new Mr. Smith. The show premiered in February 2024, with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine playing the original leads. It is now rumored to follow an anthology format, and it has not been confirmed if the original characters will be returning.

Based on the 2005 film of the same name, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Mr. & Mrs. Smith follows two strangers who are forced to come together and pose as a couple for a secret mission.

Sophie Thatcher in talks to star as Mrs. Smith in Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2

Deadline has reported that Amazon MGM Studios, the production company behind the series, has reached out to Sophie Thatcher to cast her as Mrs. Smith in Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2. Previously, the role was reported to be offered to singer Billie Eilish, who turned it down as she was busy with her music tour.

After the first season, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, ended on a cliffhanger, Prime Video did not confirm if the actors would return for the second installment. The studio meanwhile started searching for 20-something-aged actors to play the lead roles.

The streamer has still not officially announced if the series is set to follow an anthology format; however, it is known that the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith will be different characters from the ones played by Glover and Erskine.

Mark Eydelshteyn was confirmed as the male lead for the second chapter in December 2024. The actor is known for his performances in the films Anora and The Land of Sasha. On the other hand, Sophie Thatcher is famous for playing teenage Natalie "Nat" Scatorccio in Showtime’s Yellowjackets.

She has also appeared in the shows The Book of Boba Fett, Chicago Med, and When the Streetlights Go On. Her film credits include The Boogeyman, Companion, Heretic, and The Tomorrow Man.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith was created by Glover along with Francesca Sloane. The first season follows Michael and Alana, two strangers from different backgrounds, who are given the aliases John Smith and Jane Smith and asked to pretend to be a married couple by a secret organization.

As the two carry out a confidential mission, they end up falling for each other, which complicates the matter. The show received positive reviews for its engaging narrative and stellar performances and earned 16 nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards 2024.
