Almost every episode of the new Hulu series about Mormon wives features at least one of the women drinking a soda. The group dinners have a table full of soda cups while one of the actors carries an enormous cup of their favorite beverage spot, Swig. In the fifth episode, the girls visit Swig, giving viewers a glimpse into their extensive soda orders.

Fans have been bewildered by their Swig soda obsession, while some are demanding to know more about the dirty sodas they drink, which are not alcohol based. As Mormon Wives, the women are prohibited from drinking alcohol, tea, or coffee. This restriction is based on a belief that Joseph Smith, the founder of the religion, was instructed by God that hot drinks were not suitable for the body.

Without the option of consuming alcohol, Mormons often turn to soda as a substitute treat. In the fifth episode of the series, Demi Engemann explained that since they avoid alcohol and drugs, soda became their indulgence. However, the cast enjoys soda, which is not a standard Diet Coke but what they call dirty soda.

Dirty sodas are traditional sodas like Diet Coke, Dr Pepper, and Fanta enhanced with creams and various syrups to create a unique drink. They are akin to a Coke float but with syrups instead of ice cream. Coconut cream and a range of syrups are commonly used to enhance them.

Mormon Wives’ Layla Taylor also likes dirty soda

On the show, Demi’s preferred order included sparkling water, sugar-free coconut syrup, sugar-free vanilla syrup, sugar-free raspberry syrup, sugar-free pineapple syrup, and coconut cream.

Dirty sodas have been around for over a decade, with drink chains like Swig leading since 2010. In a video released by TMZ, the Mormon Wives cast members talked about dirty soda when they said:

“Add as much cream and sugar into an already sugary drink and then you are set.”

In the fifth episode, single momfluencer Layla Taylor also confessed her fondness for the drink. She mentioned on camera that she enjoys at least one 44-ounce soda almost every day of the week. Internet users have gone into a frenzy after the drink became sensational. One X user wrote:

“The funniest thing about Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was all those damn soda stores in Utah cuz Mormons dont drink coffee.”

Others wrote that the most surprising part of the show is how the Mormon wives consume 44 ounces of soda every day. It was also striking to hear them discuss how Mormons avoided caffeine while they poured Coca-Cola and Diet Coke.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives focuses on a group of Mormon women who gained popularity on social media by forming a group called "MomTok" and frequently posting videos about their lives on TikTok.

Set months after Taylor Frankie Paul confessed on TikTok Live to being involved in a 'soft swinging' scandal, the show explores how the women have managed the aftermath and continue to balance their professional and personal lives.
