In an exclusive interview with Vulture, Max's CEO, Casey Bloys, confirmed the release window for HBO's The Pitt Season 2. The modern medical drama, which is attracting high viewership each week, now has a release window in January 2026, and fans can celebrate the procedural's promising future ahead.
Talking to Vulture, Bloys confirmed:
"[T]he second season will premiere in January of 2026, a year later [than Season 1].''
He added:
''This model of more episodes cuts down on the gap between seasons. On the platform, we have shows like 'House of the Dragon,' 'The Last of Us' and 'White Lotus,' which, because of how they’re made, can take two years to make. What I love about something like 'The Pitt' is, I can get 15 episodes in a year. That’s a really great addition to what we’re already doing on the platform. And I’d like to do more shows in this model.''
The Pitt, which premiered in January 2025, was confirmed for a second season, Season 2, even before the first season, Season 1, finale, scheduled for April 10, 2025. Bloys' comments about wanting to invest in more episodes of the show and the release window confirm that the show's future is bright.
The Pitt Season 2 will have a time jump
The show stands out as a modern medical drama, with each episode following an hour of Dr. Robby's (Noah Wyle) 15-hour shift as the senior attending at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital.
The series has achieved great success, with viewers tuning in each week to discover what happens next. It was renewed for a second season in February 2025.
With the show's unconventional structure, fans are eager to discover what approach Season 2 will take. In an interview with Parade, creator R. Scott Gemmill confirmed that Season 2 will feature a time jump:
''For some story elements that you'll see later, I would want it to be a little bit later. We haven't decided whether it be three months, two months. But it wouldn't be the next day. That would put too much on storytelling.''
The show is also one of the few running procedurals with 15 episodes per season, whereas many others have around 10 to 12. Bloys' earlier comments also suggest that the show might maintain this episode count for Season 2 as well.
