Apple TV's upcoming series, Lucky, has found a new cast member. After Anya Taylor-Joy, American actor Timothy Olyphant has also joined the cast.
Lucky is an upcoming thriller series that was previously announced by Apple TV. It is based on the New York Times Best-selling book by Marissa Stapley, which was also selected for Reese Witherspoon’s Reese’s Book Club.
The official description of the series is as follows:
“A young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.”
Taylor-Joy will play the titular young woman's character, and Olyphant has been roped in to play Joy's father in the show. Earlier, Academy Award and Emmy Award-nominated actress Annette Bening was also announced to have joined the project. She is best known for All My Sons and Captain Marvel.
Timothy Olyphant joins Apple TV's thriller series Lucky
Olyphant is a critically acclaimed actor who has recently appeared in projects like The Mandalorian, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Justified: City Primeval. He has three Emmy-Award nominations, including one for The Mandalorian.
In addition to Lucky, Olyphant has joined a golf comedy series for Apple TV, alongside Owen Wilson.
His character of Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian was a big hit, and he reprised the role again in The Book of Boba Fett. He is also known for titles like Rick and Morty, Daisy Jones & the Six, The Simpsons, and Alien: Earth.
He will play Lucky's father in the series, which is being adapted by Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas for TV. They will also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers on the series.
While few details of the characters are available, Olyphant will play a smooth-talking con, who will appear in the present timeline and flashbacks. His relationship with Joy's titular character is important in the book. It would be interesting to see how that will translate on-screen.
Benning's character will be a dangerous mob leader. Her credits include 20th Century Women, Death on the Nile, and Running with Scissors.
Other executive producers for the series include Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, Candle Media, Taylor-Joy under the Ladykiller Films banner, and Jonathan Van Tulleken, who will also direct episodes for the series. He also directed many episodes of the American historical series Shogun, which recently received four Golden Globe Awards.
