Netflix's Wednesday series is back for its greatly awaited second season, and Emma Myers, the actress who portrays Enid Sinclair, has already declared it an upgrade from the first.
In an interview with Screen Rant in March 2025, Myers said,
“I like season 2 better than season 1, honestly. I think there's a lot of cool little Easter eggs. I think everybody's characters in this next season... I think people are gonna be happy with the development.”
With the first season of the show garnering a record 1 billion viewing hours as of December 2022, the second season has much to live up to.
Season 2 not only sees the return of Jenna Ortega's beloved Wednesday Addams but also adds new faces such as Joanna Lumley, Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Thandiwe Newton, Christopher Lloyd, and Lady Gaga.
Myers' statements indicate that audiences can look forward to a more layered story, more developed character arcs, and lots of hidden gems to discover.
Wednesday Season 2 is more focused on horror
With the huge success of Season 1, Wednesday Season 2 has a lot to live up to. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the showrunners, have already teased the tone change, with Jenna Ortega assuring that the next season will depart from romance and trend towards horror.
The loss of Percy Hynes White, who portrayed Xavier, also left unanswered whether the show would take a different direction.
Myers' comments on character development ring in with these changes, assuring that every returning character will have a more developed arc.
Enid and Wednesday's relationship was a high point of Season 1, and fans liked their relationship more than the love triangle storyline. Myers' infectious energy is a guarantee that this unorthodox buddy relationship will keep growing, possibly as the emotional heartbeat of Season 2.
New additions to the cast, such as horror legends Christopher Lloyd and the perpetually quirky Lady Gaga, confirm that the show will be going all in on its gothic and supernatural themes.
Hidden details and Easter eggs in Wednesday Season 2
One of the best surprises to come from Myers' interview was her reference to "cool little Easter eggs." With the show's history in the Addams Family universe, Season 2 can probably be filled with references to previous adaptations, horror classics, and Tim Burton's own body of work.
In Season 1, eagle-eyed viewers picked up on nods to The Addams Family films of the 1990s, Edgar Allan Poe's stories, and even subtle references to Burton's Sleepy Hollow (1999).
With an entirely new cast of characters and a darker direction, the Season 2 Easter eggs could go even deeper into gothic literature, horror history, and cult-classic movies. Fans can also keep an eye out for possible references to Beetlejuice, considering Burton's involvement.
Whether through subtle visual clues, cryptic monologues, or references to earlier iterations of the Addams Family, Wednesday Season 2 is proving to be a gem for eagle-eyed viewers.
With Myers' effusive praise and guarantees of fulfilling character development, excitement over the show's return reaches an all-time high.
Wednesday Season 2 will come out on Netflix.
