CBS recently announced the cancellation of its hit action drama S.W.A.T. The ongoing eighth season is now confirmed to be the last installment of the action drama, with the season 8 finale serving as the series finale.
The development disappointed not only the show’s fans but also the cast and crew. Two main cast members, Anna Enger Ritch and Annie Ilonzeh, have opened up about the S.W.A.T. series finale, revealing how the episode will leave the audience asking for more.
Annie Ilonzeh, who plays Officer Devin Gamble, said in an interview with TVLine:
“You go, ‘Oh my gosh, that just happened!’ And, ‘Wait, I need more!’ We definitely don’t button anything up. We leave you guessing and very curious for more.”

Anna Enger Ritch and Annie Ilonzeh had an interview with TVLine, where they opened up about the season 8 finale, which will conclude the series. Anna Enger Ritch, who stars as Officer Zoe Powell, said the audience would not want the show to end after watching the episode as there are many plot points left unresolved:
“I’ll say this: It will make you not want this show to end. You’ll want to keep watching what happens. There are so many avenues and directions to go, so many stories to tell, so many personal things…. It will leave you wanting so much more.”
Ilonzeh then echoed her thoughts and said viewers would be left guessing by the end of the episode. The unresolved plot points make sense, as CBS had not originally pitched season 8 as the final one. The series was canceled in March 2025, with only nine episodes left to be aired in the 8th season.
Interestingly, this is not the first time the show has been canceled. S.W.A.T. was initially dropped after six seasons in May 2023. CBS later surprisingly reversed the decision and ordered a seventh and final installment.
However, a year later, the network executives once again changed their minds and ordered an eighth season of the police drama. Anna Enger Ritch joined the show as Officer Zoe Powell in the fifth season as a recurring character and was promoted to series regular in season 7.
On the other hand, Annie Ilonzeh entered the show as Devin Gamble in the 8th season. The show also stars Shemar Moore, Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Rochelle Aytes, and Niko Pepaj in pivotal roles.
S.W.A.T. season 8 airs new episodes on CBS on Fridays.
