HBO's Lanterns series has a proper release window that was officially confirmed. A press event was organized by DC Studios at the Warner Bros. lot. In that event, the members of the press were provided fresh updates on the numerous DCU projects like Clayface, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Booster Gold, Waller, and the HBO Green Lantern show.

It was confirmed in this event that Lanterns has begun production for an early 2026 release window. While it was speculated that the series would be released in 2026, the exact time frame wasn't confirmed until now. This has fans excited because it means that we should get some snippets of this show in the second half of this year.

Apart from the release window, James Gunn also had interesting things to say about the upcoming Green Lantern show.

What did James Gunn say about the Lanterns series?

While discussing Lanterns, James Gunn revealed that the cosmic HBO series will have a pivotal role in the entire DCU mythos. But simultaneously, it will retain its stand-alone nature in terms of its tone. He was appreciative of this feature and credited Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof for it. Here's what Gunn said:

"We have Lanterns, which we just started shooting with HBO and Warner Brothers. And that is another really marvelous team of Tom King, Damon Lindelof and Chris Mundy, and they have been doing marvelous work. I've been watching the dailies with that. It's really so cool because it is connected to Superman, because we've got Guy Gardner in that, and then we got these Green Lanterns over here. And it's just such a different tone from what Superman is. And it's exactly what I want to bring to the DCU, is being able to have these very different films and television series that are still part of an overall, connected world, but have completely different feels to them."

What will Lanterns be about?

Described as a gritty series like True Detective, the official logline for the HBO Green Lantern series reads:

“New recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Based on the information above few things are already clear. Hal Jordan has been a part of the Green Lantern Corps for a while when the show begins. So, it makes sense that the character will be played by 59-year-old Kyle Chandler, who will be turning 60 this September. Joining Jordan in solving this mysterious murder case is Aaron Pierre's John Stewart.
