Taylor Sheridan's Landman officially concluded its Season 1 with an epic finale, where Tommy is made M-Tex's director after Monty dies, and he also strikes a deal with the cartel's boss, Gallino.
While Tommy is the protagonist of the show, the show also heavily invests in his wife and children's story, especially Cooper, who, at the end of Season 1, is determined to make things work with Ariana and go all into the oil business.
But unlike Cooper, Tommy's daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) has not had much of a storyline in Season 1. Many fans also felt that the show overtly sexualized her character, where she was frequently shown sporting a bikini without any reason.
However, Ainsley's character might be moving ahead to a more mature arch in Landman Season 2, which will begin shooting in early 2025. While she is not venturing into a dangerous business like her father and brother, her character might find her footing in Season 2.
Here's what Randolph has to say about her character in Landman.
Michelle Randolph is all for slow character development for Ainsley in Landman
In an interview with Deadline, Randolph spoke about how her character appeared stereotypical, initially, she answered:
''When you start a show, it’s so hard, because you don’t know your full character. Knowing who she is in episode 10 was really hard when episode one was just coming out. I was like, that’s not all she has to do!''
She also discussed how she believes that people connect more with gradual character evolution. Furthermore, she expressed her hopes for her character's development as seasons go by:
"But also, in general, we meet Ainsley and Angela at their most extreme, then we get to see them evolve. You don’t want to meet the fully evolved version of a character. If you don’t get to see the growth, then it’s not fun to watch. So I am thankful that we got to meet Ainsley at point A and hopefully by the time the show’s done, however many seasons, we’ll meet her at Z.''
Talking about Randolph's comments, we do see Ainsley at point A in Landman, as she is just a rich college girl with a huge crush on a boy (Ryder). However, as the show progressed, she became a little more mature until she finally found her own footing with her mother, Angela, in doing 'volunteer work' at the nursing home.
Ainsley ventured into her own domain with her mother and stepped out of her father's shadow, which is how her character will head in Season 2. In addition, after her boyfriend decided to play football at Texas Tech, she also decided to attend Texas Tech with him, which would mean physically and metaphorically moving out of her father's home, and making her own way in Season 2.
