A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms is the latest prequel to the wildly popular Game of Thrones franchise. A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms is based on a set of fantasy novellas written by Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin and the action is set ninety years before the events of GOT. In a recent update, the author took to his blog and expressed his appreciation for the prequel, which he stated to have seen in its entirety and liked the performances.
George R. R. Martin wrote in his personal blog:
"A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS, for starts. It’s done. Ira and his team wrapped the first season months ago, and moved right on to post production. I’ve seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them. Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible. The rest of the cast are terrific as well. Wait until you guys meet the Laughing Storm. and Tanselle Too-Tall."
The fantasy novellas that form the source of the prequel were published for the first time back in 2005. Here's everything that we know.
What is A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms all about?
As per the official synopsis, A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms has been described as:
"A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
This isn't the first time, however, that a show related to the universe GOT has made its way to the audiences. Previously, the spinoff show House of Dragons debuted on HBO in 2022 and ran for two seasons. It, however, failed to reach the heights of fanfare enjoyed by the flagship show.
When will A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms arrive?
There has been some confusion in recent times regarding the release window of the prequel show. It was earlier reported by the global streaming chief of Warner Bros. Discovery, J. B. Perrette, that the prequel would make an early arrival and start airing in the summer of 2025. This optimism was, however, contradicted when a report carried out by Variety magazine revealed that the prequel won't start streaming until later in 2025.
Author George R. R. Martin has now himself stepped in to clear this confusion. He mentioned on his blog that the new show won't be ready to air until the fall of this year:
"The series will make its debut late this year, I am now told. How late, I could not say. Maybe in the fall."
Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are exclusively available on Max.
