DC co-chairman, James Gunn, recently confirmed the fate of the upcoming show, Starfire. Taking to his Threads account, James Gunn revealed that Starfire will be a part and parcel of the DC Elseworlds. He stated:

"Starfire is Elseworlds, as are most our family animated shows.”

This announcement has put an end to the speculations surrounding the fate of the character in the new and revamped DCU. The Teen Titan-based show will now be part of DC Elseworlds as a detour from the main DCU canon that is currently in it is first phase titled, 'Gods and Monsters.' The idea to bring the Teen Titans character to the screens was first touted in 2018 and since then it has been in various stages of development.

Despite the above-mentioned announcement being welcomed by fans, there isn't any confirmation about the potential release date for the show. Here's all that we know.

What is DC Elseworlds all about?

Elseworlds was introduced by DC as a publication imprint to accommodate the development of narratives that feature recognizable superheroes and characters in settings other than the official and main DC canon. This was done to consistently dish out new and interesting arcs while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the main DC canon.

Following the renovation of the DC cinematic universe, both James Gunn and Peter Safran have understood the importance of rolling out the live-action and animated shows and movies at regular intervals to keep the audience engaged. However, Gunn has always emphasized that he would greenlit a show or a movie only when he feels that the script is ready for production. According to a report by Variety, Gunn had previously commented:

"It is hard enough making a good movie with a good script. It’s almost impossible making a movie with a script that you’re writing on the run."

Therefore DC Elseworlds serves as the perfect balancing act that allows Gunn and Safran to release small and low budget shows that deviate from the main DC canon in between their big-budget canonical releases such as the upcoming James Gunn directorial, Superman.
