Best known for his role as Hughie Campbell in Amazon Prime's The Boys, Jack Quaid recently teased a big transformation for his character in the fifth and final season. Given that the series is reaching its conclusion, Quaid hints that this season will portray a more mature and self-aware Hughie Campbell, reflective of the challenges he has undergone in the series.

He expressed mixed feelings in a recent interview: excitement about playing a character he has become very attached to and bittersweet feelings about having to say goodbye to it.

Quaid also said that season 5 would be chaotic and unpredictable, promising a lot with high stakes as well, which may lead to some significant character losses. Filming continues with him sharing the growth of Hughie and what it feels like to end this great series.

A mature Hughie

Quaid emphasized that this season showcases a more developed Hughie, stating,

“This season, Hughie is the most mature we’ve ever seen him.”

He acknowledged that Hughie's journey has been tumultuous, filled with challenges that have shaped him into someone more grounded and self-aware.

"He’s been through a lot over the course of the show and it’s made him into someone who really has their head on their shoulders."

Such an evolution is particularly interesting for the actor, considering where Hughie's character began in the series.

Chaos awaits in the final season.

In addition to speaking about Hughie's growth as a character, Quaid teased that there will be quite an unpredictable conclusion to season five, given its filming progress. He says,

“The Boys Season 5 is gonna be crazy. It’s gonna be very messy,” suggesting heavy stakes and potentially heavy losses on the character side.

The history of The Boys is that the writers are always shocking viewers in terms of dramatic twists and turns. Quaid has even indicated that a lot of the characters might not live through the end:

“I just keep thinking a lot of us are probably gonna die. It’s just going to be insane.”

It was Quaid's way of saying that the creators had planned this move long ago as a way of ending the series on their terms instead of being canceled off the air. He noted,

“I think it’s good that we end with Season 5 because we’re ending on our own terms,” making it more satisfying for both the cast and the audience.

A bittersweet farewell to The Boys

Quaid reflected on his experiences playing Hughie and expressed mixed emotions about leaving him behind. He insisted that it was wonderful to have gotten the chance to play such a complex role, though he warned of the sad feeling of saying goodbye.

“It’s really bittersweet. I love that character so much,” he said.

As fans await the final episodes of The Boys, they may expect a culmination of Hughie's journey along with other vigilantes as they face their hardest challenges yet.

So, in short, Jack Quaid's insights about The Boys Season 5 reveal a character who has matured greatly but hints that the series is going to end chaotically and emotionally.
