Daredevil: Born Again, a 'reboot' of the popular Netflix Daredevil series, dropped on March 4, 2025, on Disney+. After three successful seasons, Netflix canceled the Daredevil series due to a clash between two streaming giants (Netflix and Disney) over rights to the Marvel characters.
Netflix Daredevil's showrunner, Erik Olsen, in an interview with The Wrap, revealed that Season 4 would have been different from Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again. He tagged the unreleased plotlines of the canceled Daredevil Season 4 as a Typhoid Mary story- dangerous, chaotic, and destructive. He said,
"The Season 4 I had planned was quite different. It was a Typhoid Mary story. It was going to go into a different direction. And then I was going to circle back to the Bullseye storyline in Season 5."
However, Olsen has shared his excitement for the future of Daredevil: Born Again. He told The Wrap,
"I'm very excited that the show came back at a different network. "
Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again is based on the events years after Daredevil Season 3's finale, where viewers saw Matt Murdock defeat Wilson Fisk and force him into a truce, agreeing to return to prison in exchange for sparing Matt, Foggy, and Karen's lives. Bullseye was left severely injured in the battle.
In Daredevil: Born Again, several actors have reprised their Netflix series roles, including Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.
Charlie Cox reveals the reason behind Netflix's Daredevil cancelation: Daredevil: Born Again
After three successful seasons, Netflix abruptly canceled Daredevil in 2018 without stating any reason. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in December 2018, Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, revealed how sad the entire cast was due to its cancelation. He told EW,
"A lot of us expected to keep going, and I certainly did. The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell. I'm very saddened by that."
Even though showrunner Erik Olson already pitched Daredevil Season 4, the show was canceled without any proper official statement from Netflix citing its reason. In a recent interview with GQ, Charlie Cox revealed the real reason for the cancelation. He pointed out a clash between the two streaming giants, Netflix and Disney+. He told GQ,
"I got a called late night, and my boss at Marvel television at that time said they've pulled all the shows. All five of them. There was a conversation about the politics behind it all, some feud between Netflix and Disney. My bosses at Netflix and Marvel all called and were very nice and very polite, but it was done."
However, with the release of Daredevil: Born Again, both the reprising cast and Marvel fans are elated. As per Variety, Daredevil: Born Again has managed to secure 7.5 million views in the premiere week and has become the most-watched series on the OTT platform for the year.
