Sister Wives episode 4 aired on October 6 on TLC, and the Brown family spent Thanksgiving away from each other in their separate abodes. In episode 4, How the Mighty Have Fallen, Kody and Robyn discussed the difficulties of parenting in a polygamist family. Earlier, Janelle alleged that Kody had been unfair to other kids since he married Robyn, which Robyn completely denied.
In episode 4, Robyn requested Kody take some time and put a little extra effort into helping the kids. She explained that the kids were more connected to their mothers because he had not been available much. Kody insisted he was not in the right space and wanted some time for himself. He stated that he had been too consumed by all the failures he faced in the marriage, and it had made him angry.

However, Robyn chimed in that in a plural marriage, the kids suffer because the father is unable to provide one time to the kids. She told the cameras:
"He has to be really, really present, but then at the same time, it's still difficult just because of math, just because time. It's very natural for kids to kind of become closer to their mother."

Robyn was worried about Kody's relationship with the kids and talked to him about putting in more effort in episode 4 of Sister Wives. The two got into a tense conversation, where Kody tried his best to explain to Robyn that he had been reaching out to kids but needed space, too. Kody was afraid that talking to kids might trigger him, as they might accuse him of not being available.
He confessed his anxiousness in front of the camera and said:
"I don't try enough, I know that. That's because it's not safe to go there, and I'm triggered like crazy. I'm so angry about what has happened that if I talk to my kids, I'm worried that they'll trigger me with an accusation."
He further told Robyn that,
'I'll be honest with you. I don't have the bandwidth yet to go to God in gratitude and try and fill my love tank with the spirit of God."
However, Robyn stood her ground and insisted Kody mend the relationship with the kids. Robyn also accepted that he had made mistakes as a father.
He said during the confessional that his two biggest mistakes were not visiting Isabelle during her surgery and telling his sons to move out during COVID because they were not complying with the rules. In episode 4 of Sister Wives, Kody assured Robyn that he would try to reconcile with his kids after he was in the right space.
