The Pitt premiered on Max earlier this year and soon became one of the most acclaimed medical dramas. The show authentically portrays the struggles of the doctors and medical staff at a fictional hospital, which has resonated well with the audience.

The 15-episode series keeps the viewers hooked to the screens, and that too, without the use of any music. Some fans have been wondering why The Pitt does not feature an original soundtrack, and series star Noah Wyle has revealed the answer, stating it was a conscious decision.

In an interview with NPR, Wyle stated the creators' motive was to make the series as realistic as possible, and they did not want to make the audience feel like they were watching a television show.

“One of the decisions we made early on was to not employ any soundtrack in the show. And by lifting the music out, we've sort of removed the artifice that says you're watching a TV show and we need you to feel sad here because we're playing strings or exciting here because we are using percussion.”

Noah Wyle reveals why there is no original score in The Pitt

Noah Wyle added that instead of using a conventional background score in The Pitt, the team ensured that the hospital sounds acted like music in the storyline:

“We're letting the sort of symphony of the sound of the procedures in the room be our cadence. And a lot of that is the technical jargon that the doctors are employing. It becomes the soundtrack in this scene.”

The actor further said that not having a soundtrack helped the show draw the audience directly into the world of the doctors, serving the purpose of realistically portraying their daily trials and tribulations:

“And the intensity with which they're delivering those lines becomes the emotional equivalent of a score. And it's really less important that the audience understands and more important that the audience sees that the doctors know what they're talking about. It's competency porn.”

Even without using conventional tools like music, the creators have come up with an engaging series that is being praised by the audience and the critics. Each episode of the show depicts one hour of the 15-hour-long emergency room shift, offering a fresh perspective on medical dramas.

Created by R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt stars Noah Wyle in the role of Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, along with Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa "Mel" King, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, and Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos.

The Pitt is available to stream on Max.
