The Challenge 40 recently released a deleted scene from the show's seventeenth episode. It involves recently eliminated participant Cara Maria Sorbello and one of the finalists, Johnny Bananas. While Johnny opens up about feeling "underdog" for being in The Challenge 40 finale, Cara Maria mentions how people have "expectations" and they want them to win.
The Challenge 40 stars Cara Maria and Johnny Bananas had a serious conversation about how, despite having a solid track record, being in the finale feels like "underdog."
The two talked about how the competition has gotten fiercer compared to the previous shows and how the current reality show season has been comparatively harder and more challenging.
"I just put so much pressure on me. So, I can't imagine what you do because people expect you to win. And that's the worst position to be in. If you have a lot of expectations on you, it's a lot," shared Cara Maria Sorbello.
The Challenge 40: Cara Maria and Johnny Bananas discuss feeling like "underdog" and everyone's expectations during the show's "finale"
The Challenge 40 released its latest episode, 17, on December 18, 2024, on MTV. The segment, however, resulted in Cara Maria's elimination right before the show's finale.
Recently, the show's official Instagram shared a deleted scene, captioned with: "Episode 17 Deleted Scene The end of this convo is soooo Bananas and Cara Maria."
The clip features Cara Maria and Johnny Bananas discussing being in the show's finale. Seeing how both participants are discussing the possibility of being a finalist and being in the finale - it seems like the clip was from before the show's 17th episode was filmed.
Johnny Bananas, a champion seven times, shared feeling like an "underdog" while they were near the show's finale.
"I'm playing with the guys that are a lot of younger than me you know how hard it is to compete against someone whose never won because they are so motivated," shared Johnny Bananas.
Referring to his motivation from "back in the day," the male cast member shared:
"Back in the day, you know what the biggest motivation for winning was? I’m like, if I don’t show up and I don’t win, I’m going to have to go home and start working, like nine to five."
On the other hand, Cara Maria mentioned:
"I'm looking at Rachel, like Tori's been killing it. I mean I've never been good at dailies. That's never been my jam. But like, I can hold on my own, when I have to. But yeah, every girl man. I mean, even Michele."
The Challenge 40 participant mentioned how, despite winning in the past, the "underdog" feeling "never went away."
"I feel like even when I won, I never went out of that underdog phase, you know," shared Cara Maria.
To encourage her, Johnny mentioned that since she had made "that far," she should count herself in and keep moving forward.
The Challenge 40 will air its finale episode on January 1, 2025, on MTV.
