There has been a lot of buzz around the final season of the widely popular Netflix series Stranger Things. Sadie Sink, who plays Max Mayfield on the show, shares that the last day of shooting was emotionally difficult.
Stranger Things is a series set in the 1980s that follows the story of a group of residents in the town of Hawkins, Indiana, who witness mysterious forces and unravel government secrets. Season 5, which will be the final season of the series, is expected to release later this year.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Sink spoke about shooting for the final season. She said:
"It's so emotional. Yeah. We wrapped in December. Yeah. It was a really hard day, but yeah, crazy to kind of say goodbye to your childhood in that way. I think I'm still processing all of it, but what a beautiful experience I've been for eight years of my life."
Sadie Sink’s fate in Stranger Things season finale
Sink plays the role of Max Mayfield on the show. First introduced in Season 2, Mayfield is one of the lead characters, who forms a close bond with Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, a girl with supernatural powers and her friends Mike Wheeler (played by Finn Wolfhard), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin). Max loses her brother Billy to the monster from Upside Down, a parallel world filled with unknown entities. Max also falls victim to Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower.
At the end of Season 4, the town of Hawkins is slowly merging with the evils of the Upside Down. Max who is unconscious, is under the influence of Vecna and Eleven is unable to help her. Max is left in coma.
Sadie Sink revealed that shooting for the show was concluded in December, and that the wrap-up was a hard day because she has been part of the series for a long time. Sink’s statement confirms her return for the season finale, with the fate of her character up for speculation.
About Stranger Things
Stranger Things is for Netflix by brothers Matt and Ross Duffer. The show premiered in 2016 and was an instant global success. David Harbour as Jim Hopper and Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers topline the cast.
Earlier this year, the Duffer Brothers had teased about the upcoming season at the Next on Netflix Press Event. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Duffer said:
"At the same time, we think it’s our most personal story. It was super intense and emotional to film, for us and for our actors. We’ve been making this show together for almost 10 years. There was a lot of crying. There was so much crying. The show means so much to all of us, and everyone put their hearts and souls into it. And we hope, and believe, that passion will translate to the screen.”
While the wait for Season 5 has been long, there is excitement around the finale. Will Max come out of Vecna’s hold? Will the Hawkins residents defeat the monsters from the Upside Down? We have to wait and watch.
