The moment Chicago Fire fans had been waiting for is just around the corner, as Chief Wallace Boden is returning to the show in a soon-to-be-released episode. Eamonn Walker, who played the role for 12 years, will once again make an appearance in the series.
It has almost been a year since fans last saw Boden, as the Chief was promoted to Deputy Commissioner in the season 12 finale, leading to his exit from the storyline. Earlier in March, NBC announced Eamonn Walker’s return in Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 18, and the actor has now talked about his comeback in an interview with Deadline:
“It’s a really intense episode. I will give you this much: somebody got left behind in a fire, and that somebody was a firefighter. That is a no-no and should never, ever happen. And because they were left behind, possibly by the end of this episode, we may lose them. It’s one of your favorites.”

Eamonn Walker remained a main cast member of the show from 2012 to 2024, and his exit in the season 12 finale left the audience disappointed. In March 2025, a special episode was announced, bringing back Walker as Wallace Boden. Speaking about reprising his role, the actor said:
“Boden lives inside of me. My problem is stopping Boden from popping out. It was amazing to go back. It was amazing to put the uniform on. I’d missed everybody terribly, and the welcome that I got was second to none.”
“I feel very privileged as an actor to have a cast, a crew, and a production office step up and welcome you home. That’s what it was like, and then we went to work. And we went to work in the way that we always work. We knew that there was a very special episode.”
Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 18 will be aired on NBC on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 9 PM ET/PT. The episode is titled Post-Mortem and revolves around Boden, who serves as the Deputy Commissioner of the Fire Department and returns to help his team on a case.
Apart from Chicago Fire, Walker has also starred in shows like George Gently, Justice, The Governor, Oz, The Bill, and In Sickness and in Health. His film credits include The Messenger, The Company Men, Blood and Bone, and Cadillac Records.
Chicago Fire Season 13 also stars Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide, David Eigenberg as Christopher Herrmann, Christian Stolte as Randall "Mouch" McHolland, Joe Minoso as Joe Cruz, and Hanako Greensmith.
New episodes of the show are aired on NBC on Wednesdays.
