For three years, fans have been waiting for Peacemaker Season 2, which will officially bring Christopher Smith into the DCU. The debut installment of the superhero series concluded on Max in February 2022, and audiences have anticipated updates on the second chapter ever since.

Danielle Brooks, who stars in the show as Leota Adebayo, has now opened up about what to expect from the upcoming season. In an interview with Collider, the actress revealed Peacemaker Season 2 is going to be worth the three-year-long wait:

“It will not disappoint. I will not disappoint. It has a lot of heart in it this season, I think.”

In her interview, Danielle Brooks also disclosed that Peacemaker Season 2 will have a different opening number than the first season, which will be just as iconic. Appreciating series creator and showrunner James Gunn’s vision, she said:

“It has a great opening. James [Gunn] is so good.”

The first season’s opening number grabbed eyeballs as the cast performed some amazing dance steps, something which has not been seen in other superhero shows. Brooks said the season 2 intro theme also has a lot of moves:

“[I had to spend] a lot of time with the choreographer because it was intense.”

The series started as a spin-off of the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. It tells the story of the titular superhero, who joins a black ops group called Project Butterfly, created by the organization A.R.G.U.S. He then has to go on a mission to take down butterfly-like creatures that are trying to take control over humans.

While the first season was set in the DCEU, the second season marks a soft reboot of the series and takes place in the DCU. Most of the cast members are reprising their roles in the new season, including John Cena as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, and Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante.

The cast also includes Steve Agee as John Economos, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux, Nhut Le as Judomaster, and Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury.

Filming for the season concluded in November 2025, and the show is currently in the post-production stage. Like the first season, the second chapter will feature eight episodes and premiere on Max in August 2025. Peacemaker Season 2 marks the second television series in the DCU after Creature Commandos and will follow up on the events of the film Superman.
