The Recruit fans were shocked when Netflix abruptly canceled the spy drama after two seasons despite its popularity. The show starred Noah Centineo in the lead and followed a newly recruited CIA lawyer who went on some dangerous missions for the agency.
The series received decent reviews and became famous for its high-stakes drama and cast performances. However, earlier this month, Netflix announced it was not moving forward with a third season of the series.
Noah Centineo, who so far remained tight-lipped about the show’s fate, has finally broken his silence in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The actor revealed that The Recruit was not a good fit for Netflix, and probably that is why the streamer decided to axe it:
“With Netflix, it just didn’t really fit what it was that they needed, I suppose. And so onto the next, I guess.”

In his interview, Noah Centineo said he is proud of The Recruit and is thankful to the audience for their support. However, he added that Netflix has ultimately made the decision to end the show, and everybody needs to accept its fate:
“It is what it is. Netflix, they have a certain mandate that they need to fill, and I’m very proud of the show, very grateful to our audience. We have a pretty strong cult following.”
Centineo further highlighted how he had a great experience working on the series as he got to learn a lot on the sets. He also appreciated his co-stars and said:
“I mean, I learned so much from season one to season two. I really got to see behind the curtain of how a show gets made, and that to me was probably the most educational part of it, without a doubt. And also having such a great cast.”
Noah Centineo starred as the lead, Owen Hendricks, in The Recruit. In the first season, Owen had to deal with a former CIA asset who wanted to extort money from the agency. This got him involved in a global conspiracy. In the second season, the lawyer had an espionage mission in South Korea and had to team up with international intelligence agents.
The first season of the show premiered in December 2022 and was met with a positive response from the audience and critics. The sophomore installment came out in January 2025 and soon entered the top 10 charts on Netflix. However, its cancellation was announced a few weeks later.
Created by Alexi Hawley, The Recruit also starred Aarti Mann as Violet Ebner, Daniel Quincy Annoh as Terence Hoffman, Fivel Stewart as Hannah Copeland, Colton Dunn as Lester Kitchens, Kaylah Zander as Amelia Salazar, Vondie Curtis-Hall as Walter Nyland, and Maddie Hasson as Nichka Lashin.
The Recruit seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
