As The Challenge 40 continues to become a hot, trending topic among reality TV fans, many recall the golden days of The Real World. Many enthusiasts are even calling for a reboot of the show.
The groundbreaking series from 1992 followed the journey of strangers surviving under one roof, sparking pure drama. Known as the modern reality TV show from the 90s, the show died down when its spin-off, The Challenge took over the small screen.
With season 40 currently running on MTV, fans seem to be missing the iconic reality TV show.
The Challenge fans call for The Real World reboot
The Challenge fans are demanding a reboot of the original series, The Real World. A fan took to Reddit to express how they missed the show and wanted it back while others reasoned how its return might not be possible today.
An enthusiast wrote on Reddit,
"The real world isn't possible today," he continues. "People were 'real' on the real world, and social media sort of discourages that now. Most of the newer cast want the following that the show brings, because they can monetize that popularity (as an influencer or something similar). Even if MTV brought the show back, any cast that it hosted wouldn't give us the same realness and entertainment that the old show did."
Another The Challenge fan commented,
"The issue isn't having the real world the issue is no one wants to be canceled. The reason why the real world worked so well was because you had 7 differnt people from different walks of life. These people made mistakes and wee ignorant to things. Cancel culture doesn't allow people to make mistakes anymore. We will never have anything remotely close to the real world casting again"
Another The Challenge fan wrote,
"The Real World was no longer getting the audience that it did when it first came out... people have clearly showed a preference for reality TV that involves a competition of some sort, and their attempts to put a new spin on it weren't really interesting. I definitely think they need to try and do another Fresh Meat though and see how a strong cast of new players can inject some new individuals with their own storyline. CT and Bananas can't hang on forever..."
"i lowkey want it back too but the number one thing that half the comment section is saying is that nobody wants to get cancelled, in my honest opinion i think that’s changing a little, people are starting to get more bold again, ESPECIALLY on twitter. Somebody should show this to mtv producers and tell them to bring this show back; no editing or cutting out things, just showing the drama and what the viewers want", another netizen added.
The finale of The Challenge 40 will air on MTV on January 1, 2025.
