The second season of Interview with the Vampire kept fans on the edge as they were deeply interested in exploring the fate of Lestat de Lioncourt, one of the leading characters in the AMC TV series.
And if you think that the vampire finally met his end in the second season, you're mistaken—Lestat did not die in Interview with the Vampire. Instead, his life was spared by Louis, who didn't actually plan to eliminate Lestat from the world.
Lestat, Louis, and Claudia have been struggling with each other, and the constant conflicts have worsened their relationship. However, Claudia doesn't seem happy about being with her family, and she crafts a plan to kill Lestat in Interview with the Vampire season 2.
Claudia even confirms to Louis that she has no intention of abandoning the idea of killing Lestat, and invites him to fully turn against him. However, little does the teenager know that Louis would never take out the person who blessed him with immortality.
Is Lestat dead in Interview with the Vampire?
Lestat's fate has become one of the major concerns for fans as they wonder what would happen if Claudia succeeds in killing the one who transformed her into a vampire, ultimately giving her another chance to live.
As seen in the penultimate episode of Interview with the Vampire season 2, Claudia had made up her mind to kill Lestat at any cost and leave New Orleans for good.
She communicates with Louis through the telepathic link and advises him and Lestat to throw a party before starting a new journey in Buenos Aires. The trio begins preparations for the grand party, with Lestat trying to influence Tom Anderson with his wealth, while Claudia secretly plans to poison Lestat.
The vampires invite guests in the name of revealing their secret to immortality and how to lead a flawless life, but in reality, they are about to feed on them all. The trio fasted for three days to enjoy the party, and when the day finally arrived, they revealed their identities.
After leaving the guests stunned by the truth, Claudia, Louis, and Lestat began drinking their blood. However, Lestat senses something is wrong, and Antoinette reveals Claudia's plan.
She tells Lestat that Claudia has poisoned the guests and that she has been planning against him for a long time. Antoinette provokes Claudia and meets a tragic end in the series.
Meanwhile, Lestat started choking as he had already drunk Anderson's poisoned blood. Claudia decided to burn Lestat's presumed dead body, but Louis didn't agree with her.
As a result, they both agree to dispose of Lestat's body in the trash, with Claudia being suspicious about Louis's actions.
How did Lestat come out alive in Interview with the Vampire?
After causing a gruesome atmosphere at the party, Claudia and Louis left New Orleans, believing that Lestat had been killed. However, the tables turned here, as it was later revealed that Lestat was never killed.
Since Daniel couldn't believe that Lestat had died, and had even seen Claudia being furious at Louis after the party, Daniel started digging deeper. As Daniel goes deep into finding the truth, he learns that Louis didn't kill Lestat, and instead put him inside a coffin that could be opened from the inside.
Louis threw Lestat's coffin in the trash full of rats, and surprisingly he planned to help Lestat recover fast from feeding on the rats' blood. In the end, Lestat is fully recovered by the blood and comes out of the coffin alive.
Will Lestat appear in Interview with the Vampire season 3?
Lestat de Lioncourt isn't just a leading vampire in Interview with the Vampire, but also a fan-adored character. And saying that he won't return for the third installment won't sit well with hardcore enthusiasts who might have read the story in Anne Rice's 1985 novel.
In an interview with Variety, Sam Reid shed light on his character's fate and clarified that the show didn't leave fans with a cliffhanger. The actor said:
"It would be sort of a boring cliffhanger to leave the show on, because you know Lestat is coming back."
The gothic horror series has been renewed for season 3 and will bring back the iconic trio.
In the upcoming season, fans and viewers will see Lestat starring in a band and going on a tour, with his story being followed according to the source material.
Interview with the Vampire is streaming on Prime Video.
